About me and my therapy practice
Hello, and thank you for taking a look at my profile. It can be hard to know where to start when choosing a counsellor, but finding the Â鶹Դ´ is a great start. I understand the leap can feel huge to find a counsellor who might best support you right now, so here is a little about how I work to help you decide.
I trained and qualified in Humanistic Counselling - showing mutual respect, I believe you have the answers you need to manage your life but finding that clarity can feel overwhelming when feeling tired, stressed, or lost. Person-centred, to support you, I provide scaffolding, so you can build your knowledge, confidence and skills at your pace.
Also trained and experienced in Emotional Literacy support I've worked alongside Educational Psychologists and Teachers, teaching children how to manage their emotions - I’ve seen how and why not everyone gets the tools that help us navigate all that life brings. I will listen, and use my training to help you find ways through uncomfortable emotions. In a safe space to unpack your situation, I offer understanding without judgement.
Having worked for years frontline in Business, Hospice, and Education sectors, I've experienced many of the challenges in those environments. I appreciate how differently we all learn and communicate too so, I work with that in mind.
Understanding that talking on it's own to solve a problem isn’t always easy, I can use my training in Creative Counselling; bringing more of your senses together to reduce some brain stress through writing, drawing, sand and other support tools.
Practice description
I am insured, enhanced DBS checked, and regularly update my knowledge through CPD and further training. A registered member of the Â鶹Դ´, I rely on and work to their ethical framework. Work hours are relatively flexible (agreed in advance), and I offer an in-person and/or online service (UK only).
While I have extensive experience working with children on emotions, my availability is for adults (age 18+) who want counselling. On this, I have seen how helpful it can be to do counselling if you are caring for someone of any age, and equally, I appreciate things we thought were "ok" can overwhelm us in any stage of life. Much of my work is around reducing the overwhelm and building stronger skills to manage difficult emotions. Timing helps, but so does having a curiosity and want to feel better.
Booking 6 (weekly) sessions to begin is generally good advice, but this depends on your experience of counselling, and what you'd like to get out of it - something we can talk about more with a free 20 minute phone consultation.
For more information, and what to expect, I invite you to visit my website.
My first session
For a free 20 minute telephone consultation, drop me an email and include some times you could be available.
When we talk I'll ask you for some information (like contact details and some background), and why you think counselling might help.
I notice that clients often find it useful to talk first by phone, and then maybe have at least one 'in-person' session, with the option of continuing. There is a Counselling Agreement that we both sign before any work begins. It includes important information about confidentiality and safety.
The first 50 minute session is different for everyone but generally it's about figuring out what the next step in your journey could be, so I'll likely ask you a few questions about what's on your mind, and what you'd like to get out of counselling.
