About me and my therapy practice

Hi I am Julie, I am an experienced qualified psychodynamic therapist working in the Winchester area.

We all face struggles, and sometimes just having someone listen and give you the space to explore them is invaluable, whether they feel huge or minor. I provide that safe space and will support you in looking towards change. We'll work together, focusing on your current priorities and moving at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

As you continue, you may develop a much clearer sense of who you are and why you feel what you feel. This clarity naturally brings more ease and fulfillment to handling whatever life sends your way.

Whether you are experiencing relationship issues, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, or coping with loss or other difficulties, the space is yours to bring what you are feeling at the present time.

Practice description

I work in a gentle, and sensitive way. My practice is centred on psychodynamic principles which means we will work together to uncover how early relationships and experiences may be affecting your current struggles and indeed how recent experiences may also have been impacted.

My own journey through therapy was truly transformative, and it continues to shape the way I hold space for my clients.  I have a special interest in helping individuals navigate the emotional challenges associated with menopause  and marriage breakdown. My approach is rooted in the belief that our past experiences and unconscious minds profoundly influence our present feelings and behaviours.

Having spent the early part of my career in the corporate world, I understand how a high-pressure, fast-paced environment can impact both mental and physical health. In addition to our conversations during sessions, there will be a chance for us to consider the impact that life pressures and emotions have on the body and ways that can help counter the negative effects.

I am a qualified therapist with a Level 5 Diploma in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. I follow the Â鶹ԭ´´ Ethical Framework, which helps ensure a safe and ethical therapeutic relationship.

Our work can be long-term and open-ended or structured as a shorter, focused engagement. We can discuss and decide what works best for you and adjust our approach as your needs evolve.

I work with adults aged 18 or over.

My first session

The first session is an opportunity for us to meet each other and find out more.  Starting therapy and sharing personal experiences with someone you don't know can feel like a big step, so it is important to find someone with whom you feel a connection. I offer a free 15-minute introductory call during which we can talk about how the process works and what you're hoping to get out of therapy.  It also gives you a chance to ask any questions you might have about how I work and see whether we are a good fit and you feel comfortable moving forward.

If we decide to work together, we’ll arrange the first session. During that session, I may ask you a few questions about your relationships and family, and you’ll have space to share more about what’s bringing you to therapy at this time.

Ongoing sessions, will be led by you and whatever feels important for you to bring.

Sessions are held weekly, on the same day and at the same time each week, to provide a framework within which we can work.
