About me and my therapy practice
Hello. My name is Claire. I am a qualified psychodynamic counsellor. I work in person with adults aged 18+.
Life can be complex and understanding our own emotions and behaviours can be challenging and lonely.
I offer a safe, confidential and non judgemental space where together, we can explore your feelings and enable you to develop a greater sense of self awareness.
Practice description
As a psychodynamic counsellor, I am interested in the connections between how our past experiences affect our relationships and behaviours in the present. Often, our behaviours are unconscious, and it is not until we become aware of them that we can begin to understand the effect we have on others and the effect other people's behaviour have on us.
Gentle exploration of our feelings and emotions with someone who is empathic, unbiased, independent and non-judgemental can promote new insights into current behaviours. I will work with you through active listening, reflection and gentle questioning to create greater self-awareness, enabling you to develop and grow as a person and start making meaningful changes in your life.
My first session
After an initial telephone conversation, you can decide whether it would be helpful to progress with an initial appointment.
During our first meeting, I will ask you to share information with me so that I can start to form an awareness of your situation. We will discuss how we may work together and whether you have any expectations or worries concerning the therapeutic process.
The relationship between client and counsellor is key in enabling you to feel safe to progress your therapy. Should you feel uncomfortable at any time during the session, we can stop and reflect on whatever feelings emerge.
Should you wish to progress with therapy, we will agree to meet weekly, on a fixed day at a fixed time. Therapy can be as little or as long as you feel is helpful.
