About me and my therapy practice
I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist which means that I am interested in how the unconscious mind affects our relationships and shapes the lives we live.
Many of the people I work with have anxiety around intimacy, isolation, or poor self-esteem and I will listen to whatever you need to talk about without judgment. I will work with you in a respectful and collaborative manner so that we can explore how your emotional self relates to your life, your relationships, and to wider society.
I work with people from a range of backgrounds but have particular experience working with people from the LGBT+ community, including those with substance dependence issues. I also work in NHS community mental health and have an understanding of the conditions which can lead people to engage with these services.
Practice description
I work with clients in person from my practice in Waterloo and also online.
I work with people weekly as I feel this is necessary to build the rhythm and trust needed for deeper forms of work.
My first session
Our first session is a chance for us meet and discuss the kind of work you wish to do. I will ask about your history, hopes and expectations from therapy, and you will be able to ask me questions and get a sense of what it will be like to work with me.
The initial session is usually quite structured and you will likely have a lot to tell me, in which case I may suggest we continue our introductory work into a second session.
I will go through the contract which covers confidentiality, payments, cancellation and holiday policy and will provide you with a copy to read in your own time as well.
