About me and my therapy practice

"The world is not made for me" - does this notion sound at all familiar? It does to me and I know it to be a common experience, especially for those who hold marginalised identities.

Hi there, my name is Julia, it's good to have you on my profile. I am a London-based fully qualified Gestalt psychotherapeutic counsellor working in person, outdoors, and online.

I have been trained to work with a wide variety of issues and have a particular interest in working with those who have experienced systemic oppression. Being a physically disabled person myself, I have lived experience of what it is like to live in a world not designed for you and I aim to provide a therapeutic practice that is inclusive, accessible, and welcoming to all.

If you are reading this, you have already made the big step to decide to pursue therapy. I hope this profile can help you gauge whether I would be the right fit for you but whatever you decide, I wish you all the best for your journey

Practice description

People come to therapy for a variety of different reasons, whether it's to seek support in a time of crisis, to figure out why they are not feeling the way they would like to feel, or just to know themselves better. All of these and many more are valid reasons to pursue therapy and I've enjoyed supporting clients in a variety of journeys.

鈥淭herapy is two human beings exploring thoughts together鈥 - Gwen Adshead

I see therapy as a collaborative, curious, non-judgmental, and profoundly human space. It is difficult to explain what therapy is because it is a two-person organism that takes on a unique shape at any given moment in time. Above all, my Gestalt approach sees you as the expert in your own experience and therapy as a space to support and challenge you to heighten your sensitivity to articulate it. This is done through attention to both mind and body, through creativity, and active dialogue between you and I.

For outdoor therapy, first sessions will always take place online or, where feasible, in person at one of my other practice locations.
