About me and my therapy practice
I am a counsellor, psychotherapist, and psychologist with extensive experience in my field
My approach is integrative, meaning I draw on various therapeutic models to tailor each client's treatment to their unique needs. I focus on understanding the roots of difficulties rather than offering quick fixes, which rarely bring lasting change.
I believe therapy works best as an active process: I will guide and support you, but you will play an active role in gaining insight and making the changes you want in your life.
I have worked with clients facing a wide range of issues, including childhood trauma, depression, anxiety, self-esteem difficulties, interpersonal and family challenges, parenting concerns, loss of purpose, midlife crises, life and other transitions and many others.
I also have extended training in grief and bereavement and am currently researching the treatment of complex grief, which has given me particular insight into this deeply personal area.
Training, Qualifications & Experience:
- Master's in Psychology and Family Studies
- Postgraduate Diploma in Psychotherapy and Counselling
- Currently completing a further postgraduate training in Psychotherapy
- Training and experience working in Myton Hospice and with bereaved clients, as well as clients whose relative has a terminal illness
- Training and experience working in Cruse Bereavement Support
- Online counselling in the UK Counselling Network
- Training and Experience with the Parenting Project, working with clients of neurodivergent children who face challenges in parenting and relationships.
- Training in accessing deep unconscious processes and linking them to present challenges
- Extended training in grief and bereavement; currently conducting research into complex grief and its treatment
- Training in criminal psychology, investigation and resolving conflict
Practice description
My practice is strongly influenced by psychodynamic methods, attachment theory, and object relations, which explore how past experiences shape present patterns of relating and being. Alongside this, I use a person-centred approach, ensuring you remain at the heart of the process.
Together, we will explore unhelpful patterns and defences that may once have served a purpose but no longer do, replacing them with healthier coping strategies.
I regularly revisit goals with clients to ensure progress is clear and meaningful. I aim to create a safe, respectful, and collaborative space for healing and growth.
My first session
I offer a complimentary 15-minute online consultation to discuss your concerns and assess whether we are a good fit for each other.
During our first meeting, we will delve into the issues that have brought you to therapy and explore how it can benefit you.
Together, we will decide whether to move forward with regular sessions. Typically, these sessions are held weekly or every other week at the same time. Each session lasts about 50 to 55 minutes, and maintaining a consistent schedule is an essential part of the therapeutic process.
