About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I鈥檓 Skye, a qualified integrative counsellor and community grief tender with ten years鈥 experience in mental health.
People often come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected or unsure where to begin, just with a sense that something needs to change. You might have specific things you want to work on or you may not have a clear story or starting point yet. We can take it slowly and make sense of things together, at your pace.
My practice is trauma-informed. I listen with care and validate your experiences, whatever they may be. I can support you in understanding how trauma and difficult life events affect you. Together, we can work to establish a sense of safety and steadiness in your body and in your wider life. I鈥檓 mindful of pacing and choice and I won鈥檛 push you further than feels manageable. This way of working centres your strengths and supports you to make choices that feel right for you.
I work relationally, meaning the connection we build together is an important part of therapy. Feeling safe, respected, and understood matters, especially when exploring trauma, loss or strong emotions. I welcome your feedback about how it feels to work with me and will check in about how things are going. This can build trust and gently highlight patterns that show up in your other relationships.
As an integrative counsellor, I draw on different therapeutic approaches, depending on what feels most helpful for you in the moment. I respond to you 鈥 your thoughts, feelings, and body sensations 鈥 rather than following a one-size-fits-all model.
I鈥檓 an LGBTQIA+ affirmative therapist and take an anti-oppressive stance that is inclusive and compassionate. I don鈥檛 see distress as something 鈥渨rong鈥 with you but as shaped by the wider systems and contexts we live within, our life experiences and relationships. Alongside exploring your inner world, we can think together about what helps you feel resourced, supported, and better able to cope with the challenges you face.
Practice description
I offer short-term therapy (minimum 12 weeks), long-term and open-ended work.
I mostly provide talking therapy but at times I might suggest a simple exercise, like writing or moving, that taps into different parts of your body-mind, so you can notice thoughts or feelings that were previously outside of your awareness. Whether we try these activities or not is up to you - just like everything else in our work together, you鈥檙e free to decide what feels right for you and your choice and preferences come first.
You can choose to have sessions online via Zoom, in a therapy room, or outdoors in Brighton. Online sessions can be a good option if you have access needs, a busy schedule, or want extra privacy. Meeting indoors offers a contained space away from your living environment, that can feel safe when talking about sensitive things. Working outdoors can support your wellbeing in a different way, with fresh air, movement and the space and calm that come from being in nature.
I welcome working with all clients and have a particular interest in working with:
- Trauma and abuse
- Bereavement, loss and grief
- Anxiety, depression and low self-esteem
- Relationships, communication and attachment styles
- Isolation, despair and existential concerns
- Systemic oppression and discrimination (e.g. transphobia, misogyny, racism)
- LGBTQIA+ people
- Neurodivergent people
I offer a sliding scale of 拢60 鈥 拢90 per session, with clients choosing a rate that feels affordable for them. My concessionary slots are currently full but please feel free to email to check availability or to be added to my waiting list.
If you feel that we might work well together, you are very welcome to get in touch.
My first session
I offer a free 15-minute phone call before we begin, so you can ask any questions you may have about counselling and how I work, and so we can talk through practical details such as location, availability and fees.
If you decide to proceed, we will then have an initial 50-minute consultation session. This is a space to explore what has brought you to counselling and what you hope to gain from it, and to get a sense of whether working together feels like a good fit. This session is charged at the agreed session rate.
If we choose to continue, sessions are 50 minutes, held weekly at the same time and day. Sessions are led by you and whatever feels most important to bring on that day.
