About me and my therapy practice
I believe that therapy works best when you feel comfortable being yourself and when you feel that your therapist genuinely understands you. Finding the right therapist is therefore really important, and I see the therapeutic relationship as the foundation of our work together.
My approach is collaborative. You are the expert in your own life, and my role is not to tell you what you should do, but to work alongside you to understand what is happening, explore what may be keeping you stuck and find ways forward that feel right for you.
I don’t believe there is a single approach to therapy that works for everyone. I adapt the way I work according to your individual needs, experiences and goals. Sometimes you may simply need a space to talk openly and make sense of things; at other times, we might explore particular thoughts, feelings, patterns or practical strategies that could help.
I aim to offer a warm, down-to-earth and non-judgemental environment where you can talk honestly about whatever is bringing you to counselling. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you begin, and you don’t need to know exactly what you need from therapy. We can work that out together.
Alongside my private practice, I work therapeutically with both adults and children and young people within NHS and community settings. This has given me experience supporting people with a wide range of emotional and mental health difficulties and has helped me develop a flexible and person-focused way of working.
I will regularly check in with you about how our sessions are feeling and whether you feel they are helping. If something isn’t working for you, I want you to feel able to say so.
Most importantly, therapy should feel like something we are doing together, not something that is being done to you.
Practice description
Solacis Therapy offers a private, confidential space where you can take some time away from the demands of everyday life and focus on what is going on for you.
I work with both adults and young people and offer a warm, down-to-earth approach to counselling. I understand that reaching out for support can feel daunting, particularly if you have never had counselling before, so I aim to make the process as comfortable and straightforward as possible.
Sessions are a chance to talk openly about whatever has brought you to counselling, at a pace that feels manageable for you. You don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what you want to talk about or have a clear idea of what you need from therapy. We can take some time to understand where you are and what you would like to be different.
I offer a flexible approach because I recognise that people need different things from therapy. Some clients may want somewhere to talk and be listened to, while others may want to explore particular patterns, feelings or experiences in more depth. We can work together to find what is most helpful for you.
I have experience working therapeutically within NHS and community settings with both adults and children and young people, supporting a range of emotional and mental health difficulties. I bring this experience into my private practice while keeping the focus firmly on you as an individual.
If you are unsure whether counselling is right for you, or whether I might be the right therapist, you are welcome to email me with any questions before arranging an appointment. I aim to respond to enquiries within 48 hours.
Finding the right therapist matters, so there is no expectation to commit simply because you have enquired. I hope that from your first contact with Solacis Therapy, you feel welcomed, respected and comfortable enough to take things one step at a time.
My first session
Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin thinking together about what has brought you to counselling and what you would like to get from our work.
We will spend some time going through our counselling agreement so that you understand how I work and what you can expect from our sessions. I will also invite you to complete a CORE-10 questionnaire and a preferences form. These help us to get a clearer picture of how things are for you at the beginning of therapy and, importantly, what you would like from our work together.
We will talk about what has brought you to counselling, what you would like to be different and what your hopes or goals for therapy might be. You don’t need to have all of this worked out beforehand — we can explore it together.
Your goals aren’t set in stone. As therapy progresses, we can regularly check in and review whether the things we are working on still feel relevant and whether you feel you are getting what you need from our sessions.
There is also no pressure to tell me everything in your first session. Starting counselling can feel daunting, and we can take things at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
The first session is charged at my usual session rate of £55, as it is the same length as subsequent sessions and includes the same dedicated therapeutic time.
Most importantly, the first session is also an opportunity for you to decide whether I feel like the right therapist for you. Finding a good fit matters, and I want you to feel comfortable asking questions and letting me know what you need from our work together.
