About me and my therapy practice

Are you considering starting therapy? Navigating life's challenges can be difficult on your own. Perhaps you are going through a life change, struggling with relationships, or questioning your identity, or direction? I can offer a supportive safe space, free of judgement, to explore your experiences and next steps.

My name is Ruth (she/her/they). I am a qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, based from a private, spacious studio right in the centre of Newcastle Upon Tyne, or online.

I have experience working with neurodivergence, and I adapt sessions as appropriate to make therapy more accessible. I have a particular interest in working with clients considering, or awaiting diagnosis for neurodiverse conditions, such as ADHD. I acknowledge that this process can be complex and emotional and talking it through can be beneficial.

Training, qualifications & experience

My Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling is UKCP and 麻豆原创 accredited.

Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked within further and higher education, focusing on student support, mental health, and inclusion. I have worked as a counsellor since 2022 within NHS Primary care, employee counselling for emergency service workers, and in my own private practice.

I am constantly seeking to improve my practice, and increase my awareness. Additional training I have undertaken includes:

鈥>Gender Sexuality and Relationship Diversity (GSRD Therapy) - a term used for LGBTQIA+ inclusive therapy.

鈥>Queerness and Polyamory

鈥>C-PTSD & Autism: Trauma Informed Support

鈥>Sexual Violence Awareness

鈥>Coaching and Mentoring

鈥>ADHD Coaching

Practice description

I take an integrative approach to therapy work, which means I use a range of models and methods, tailored to your individual circumstances, whether for short-term work (8 sessions) or long term counselling.

I don鈥檛 believe in a 鈥渙ne size fits all鈥 therapy model. Your therapy journey is unique. Whether you prefer to sit and talk through 鈥渉ere and now鈥 worries, or to explore deeper what lies beneath them, we can work together to find the approach best for you. This could mean person centred work, where you decide where your therapy goes, or relational therapy or transactional analysis where we explore your relationships and behaviours. If you prefer to "think" through your experiences, we can use psycho-education to help understand them, or we can take a more creative route using meditation techniques, imagery or art.

I am familiar with working with ADHD, AuDHD and Autistic clients, and the experiences specific to living as a neurodivergent person, such as the importance of sensory regulation, and phenomena like Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD). At assessment I will always ask what your diagnosis (or potential diagnosis) means for you, to see how we can work together in a way that feels accessible.

**Due to my experience with neurodivergence, I have expanded my offering to ADHD Coaching. This is for clients who have ADHD, or suspect they may do, who are wanting practical support to achieve their goals in work or life, needing more structure, or struggling with accountability.

**Waitlist for online ADHD Coaching sessions starting Weds 5th November is open. **I am accepting both private enquiries and enquires funded through Access to Work schemes.**

My first session

Sessions last 50 minutes.

My rate is 拢70.

Beginning counselling can feel daunting, and I am happy to answer any questions you have before beginning working together. I aim to create a safe, inclusive and empathetic space where you are able to feel heard and valued as your whole self. I offer a free 10-15 minute video call to help you decide if I鈥檓 the right therapist for you.

In our first session,  we will do a client assessment together which I try to keep conversational and relaxed. It鈥檚 an opportunity for me to learn more about you,  your history, and reasons for coming to therapy, and we can clarify your therapy goals. We can also discuss any adjustments you may need to make therapy more accessible for you. We will agree on a time for our sessions, which would usually be weekly.
