About me and my therapy practice
Making the start of your counselling journey could certainly be one of those pivotal moments in life. Until something changes, nothing changes. Its imperative that the match with the therapist is as unique and fulfilling as you are to yourself.
I very much believe that we are taught many things in life growing up, but most of the time, this sits within an unconscious part of us. We play these roles out in life, not knowing why we are doing this. We are always relating to something at any given moment, either romantically with a partner, with friends or maybe family, though also with ourselves, that perpetual other critical voice, maybe. So, what we are taught in our formative years often ends up replaying in adult life. Life offers up challenges that we struggle to come to terms with, and we may end up becoming that younger self again and not knowing why. Then we get stuck, we get ill, and then we blame ourselves for not knowing why. Psychodynamic therapy can help unravel some of these frustrations and hopefully let us lead a more fulfilling, happier life.
I believe in the struggles that both males and females have within society. What is my given role in society, you may ask? Am I truly following my own path in life, or does it feel more like a predetermined destination? With so much in life, everything has its roots somewhere, whether that is cultural or relational. In our sessions, I will encourage a deeper understanding of yourself, so you can lead a much more authentic, autonomous life. It will certainly be challenging and painful, though also rewarding and liberating. Discovering those hidden parts that have been repressed and feeling your energy return to life. Everything in life we suppress and repress will eventually come around again as though it were yesterday. All emotions are essentially a way our bodies relay information to us. All emotions are essentially a communication to you; learning how to reinterpret these is a valuable part of life.
Practice description
I hold a Higher Diploma in Integrative Counselling, which has allowed me to learn and acquire the skills required to effectively hold and contain my clients. This gave me a rich understanding of different therapies that I can draw upon with different clients. In my training and formative years as a therapist, I was held and contained in a very Psychodynamic model. After my initial training as an Integrative therapist, I started learning the art of Psychodynamic practice, both within my role as a therapist at SCC counselling center in Taunton, and also formally at Enfield counselling college.
I work mainly psychodynamically, though I also work from an integrative approach. I find these two modalities together give the chance for a rich understanding of yourself, and allow us to unpack the layers of your life that are troubling you. All emotions are essentially a way your body is trying to communicate with you. Though in life we consider them bad or invasive, or troubling and inconvenient. Though once they were designed to save us, sadly, our bodies have not caught up. Learning to reorganise these feelings, and the nuanced effects they have on us, is the start of freeing ourselves from theregrasp on us. We will work together to unravel these cycles and bring a more authentic ability, so you can recognise your true self from maybe a perceived self.
I provide both long term face-face work, as well a short term face-face work in person. Digital online platforms are available if this is something that you require, though my emphasis is to always encourage in-person therapy if possible.
