Hello, and welcome to my profile. As a compassionate Integrative and Psychodynamic therapist based in central Taunton, I am dedicated to helping you find that calm in anxious moments. I am currently welcoming new inquiries and clients at Apsley House, where I offer sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 AM to 6 PM. For added convenience, I also provide remote sessions through digital platforms at various times. Let’s embark on this journey together toward a more peaceful and fulfilling life.
About me and my therapy practice
Starting your counselling journey could certainly be one of those pivotal moments in life. Until something changes, nothing changes. The match with the therapist must be as unique and fulfilling as you are to yourself.
We learn many things in life as we grow up, but often these lessons reside in our unconscious minds. We absorb the influences of our surroundings during our formative years, and these experiences tend to replay in our lives, leading us to repeat certain behaviours.
In essence, we are always relating to something at any given moment, whether it’s romantically with a partner, socially with friends, or in our interactions with family. We also engage with ourselves, often contending with that inner critical voice. The lessons we learn in our early years often shape our adult lives, and we face challenges that can be difficult to navigate. This can cause us to revert to our younger selves without understanding why, leading to feelings of being stuck or unwell. Consequently, we may begin to blame ourselves for our confusion.
Emotions are essential signals from our bodies, often conveying messages that we might perceive as negative, intrusive, or bothersome. However, recognising these feelings as important communications can be the first step in liberating ourselves from their influence. Together, we will examine these emotional cycles, aiming to cultivate a more authentic and fulfilling way of being.
Everything in life has its roots, whether they are cultural or relational. In our sessions, I will encourage you to develop a deeper understanding of yourself, allowing you to lead a more authentic and autonomous life. This journey can be challenging and uncomfortable at times, but it is also rewarding and liberating. As new habits begin to replace old ones, you will experience a sense of renewed clarity and energy.
Practice description
I hold an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling, equipping me to support clients effectively. My training, which included psychodynamic supervision, has had a significant impact on my practice. My passion for this approach also led me to undertake formal training in the Foundation of Psychodynamic Practice.
I actively specialise in Anxiety relief. That anxious feeling that feels as its just floating around, I'm anxious though I don't know why; is a common question from many clients.
As an integratively trained therapist i can offer a less specific model of working, rather drawing on a few schools of thought for therapeutic benefit, which I feel will help you achieve relief of symptoms. In essense a much more flexible and inclusive form of therapy rather than a singular practice. It tends to be a shorter period of therapy than the psychodynamic practice.
Though I often see the limitations of this practice especailly for the more deeply seated and rooted problematic symptoms. So I may work psychodynamically, which goes much deeper into unconscious thoughts, past experiences and unresolved inner conflicts. It aims to make the unconscious conscious. I encourage you to freely associate with your life, childhood and feelings. Through this process, you may connect past experiences to habits and problems in the here and now. Maybe helping explain why we do these certain things, or attach ourselves to people who feel safe, though actually aren't that helpful for us. This form of therapy is specific and rigid in its approach, though it offers long-term change.
