About me and my therapy practice
Congratulations on making the big step to seek out counselling. It can be daunting and overwhelming to find help, even when you know help is out there.
Thank you for finding me.
I’m Laura, a psychotherapeutic counsellor, writer, yoga enthusiast and fellow human being.
My goal as a therapist is to get to know you, your story, your struggles and your aspirations. Together we can find ways to help you find empowerment over your own life.
• Are you plagued with constant worrying?
• Do you feel confused, uncertain or irritable?
• Do you feel hopeless and think ‘what’s the point?’
• Do you need support through a big life change?
• Do you have trouble sleeping or difficulty concentrating?
• Do you find it hard to relax?
• Have you lost someone important to you?
• Do you find yourself in a hole you can’t get out of?
• Are you struggling with a decision you can’t seem to make?
• Do you have that issue you have pushed down so much in the hope it goes away, but it never does?
• Do you feel generally ‘OK’ but want to get to know yourself better?
• Do you need help making sense of yourself and your life right now?
I’m here to listen, to gently walk alongside you as you tell me your story and help you find your own personal insight.
I have personal and professional experience in:
- Trauma and abuse
- Grief and loss
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Stress and workplace issues
- Burn out
- Chronic illnesses and hidden disabilities
Supporting survivors of abuse
I have specialist experience in the impacts of trauma and supporting survivors of all forms of abuse. This could be emotional, sexual and physical abuse in childhood. It could also be domestic violence, coercive control and manipulation in adulthood. These issues are often shrouded in secrecy and shame and could be buried deep within you. All survivors deserve to have their voice heard. I am passionate about helping people find the tools to navigate life, not as a product of their abuse, but as strong, resilient survivors.
Practice description
What to expect from counselling
I am an integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor, which means I am trained in a variety of counselling theories and approaches. In practice, this means I tailor my approach to your needs, after meeting you and understanding what you would like to get out of your therapy (It’s also ok not to know right at the beginning, this might evolve as we work together more).
Some interesting parts of being an integrative counsellor include:
• Person-centred – puts you in the driving seat, trusting you know yourself best.
• Relational – using the therapeutic relationship to build trust and forge insights into how you relate to others.
• Psychodynamic – finds patterns in past behaviours and attachment styles from childhood,
• CBT – finding deeply rooted core beliefs, challenging them and changing your mindset.
• Body-mind connection – your body keeps the score, finding ways to listen to what your body is telling you.
• Creativity – I am a trained SandStory Therapist™ which is a creative way to get in touch with your unconscious and make your own meaning from stories in the sand.
• Yoga and breathwork - I am a qualified yoga teacher and have practiced yoga for over 20 years. Sometimes my yoga experience shows up in my therapeutic practice through breathwork exercises, slowing down and finding peace in the present moment.
