About me and my therapy practice
Everyone needs help from time to time and making the decision to start therapy can be hard and long thought through. I aim to make you feel safe and held whilst exploring your thoughts and feelings, never judging and creating space for you to be the authentic you. Our relationship is at the heart of what I do and my style is relaxed and approachable.
Maybe you live with constant anxiety and stress and are unable to stop overthinking. Work stress could be stopping you from experiencing life fully making you feel trapped with no space for anything else. Or you're always the strong one supporting others. Early childhood experiences and difficult relationships could affect every day. Or you may be living with chronic illness and need compassionate support as you manage daily challenges. I'm here.
Sometimes we believe that we should be able to deal with difficult issues on our own. Often this can be hard to do as the thoughts and feelings become tangled, rather like a ball of wool that’s difficult to unravel, and it’s hard to think objectively. Therapy helps to untangle these thoughts and feelings to bring about peace and calm.
Practice description
I offer one to one counselling sessions either face to face, online or by telephone. I work in an integrative way using a combination of person-centred, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural therapies.
Person centred being where I'm led by you and what you bring to the session. Psychodynamic exploring thoughts, feelings and anxieties as well as early experiences and how this may be affecting the present. Then CBT challenging unhelpful thought patterns to notice different ways of being. I use a collaborative approach individual to you and I'm by your side the whole time.
I have particular experience in working with stress, anxiety, depression, relationships, women’s issues, menopause, family problems, difficult childhood experiences, divorce, miscarriage, chronic illness, disability, grief and loss, work stress, court cases, industrial tribunals, carer responsibilities and low self-esteem.
As well as my private practice, I worked for local charities including Richmond Aid, supporting clients with long-term health conditions, disabilities, complex mental health needs and caring responsibilities. Kingston Women’s Centre, helping local women and I've also volunteered with RUILS since 2020, a charity supporting independent living, as a befriender.
I have a post graduate diploma from the University of Roehampton, Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy (L7), BSc Psychology from University of Leicester and a L2 Counselling Skills qualification.
My first session
First therapy sessions can be daunting and I work to make this as comfortable and relaxed as possible, I'm grounded in warmth, curiosity and care. We move at your pace and make sense of things together.
If you would like some more information please contact me by email, we can then arrange a free 15 minute video or telephone call. On this call, we will talk about what has brought you to therapy, what you hope to achieve, my approach and how we might work together. You can ask any questions. If you decide, we can set up a regular day and time for our future sessions. This can be in person at The Orange Tree Clinic, Teddington or by video or phone call.
