About me and my therapy practice

I’m Nolan Richardson, a counsellor and psychotherapist based in Cardiff, offering therapy in person, online, and by phone. I work with adults from diverse backgrounds, supporting people through challenges such as anxiety, depression, relationship issues, bereavement, low self-esteem, trauma, work-related stress, and life transitions.

My approach is relational, collaborative, and tailored to you. Drawing on a range of therapeutic models, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), person-centred therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches, I adapt each session to your needs and goals. You can expect a warm, compassionate environment alongside practical tools to help you manage difficult feelings, improve communication, and build resilience.

Whether you’re looking for short-term support for a specific concern or longer-term therapy for deeper exploration, I aim to help you feel heard, understood, and empowered to make positive changes in your life.

Practice description

From the first session, my focus is on listening closely and understanding what has brought you to therapy. We work together to explore your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, helping you develop clarity and self-awareness in a safe and supportive space.

I support clients with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, grief and loss, stress, burnout, trauma recovery, identity concerns, and adjusting to major life changes. Using an integrative approach, I draw on evidence-based methods such as CBT, compassion-focused therapy, and mindfulness, always guided by what works best for you.

Our sessions are a space for reflection, learning, and personal growth, offering strategies you can take into everyday life. My aim is to help you navigate challenges with more confidence, build healthier relationships, and reconnect with what matters most to you.

My first session

I offer a free 15-minute phone or video call before booking your first session, giving you a chance to see if my approach feels right for you.

Your first full session is about creating a safe and welcoming space to share your story and explore what you’d like to achieve through therapy. We’ll discuss your background, the challenges you’re facing, and the hopes or goals you have for our work together. There’s no pressure to complete formal assessments - we go at your pace.

Sessions are available in person in Cardiff, or online/by phone for clients across the UK. This first meeting lays the foundation for a trusting therapeutic relationship and a personalised plan to support your wellbeing.
