About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I'm Jason, a qualified integrative counsellor working online and in Bridport, West Dorset. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (Â鶹Դ´). I work with all adults (18 & over).
I offer you a supportive and kind space to experience healing, change, and to help you explore whatever it is you are experiencing. I aim to help you work towards whichever direction you want to go. You are the focus in our work together.
Much of my work often involves supporting people with depression, stress, life changes, relationships, self-worth, self-exploration, and identity. My special interests include, but are not limited to, working with loss and grief, and depression.
Ultimately, and, I think, most importantly, I am interested in the human experience and being with people.
I offer a non-judgmental and supportive space to help you explore whatever you are experiencing. Our work together will be confidential. We will listen with each other to each other.
I think my profile risks being read as a bit ‘cold’ - I hope that when we have had a chance to talk, you might realise that it doesn’t reflect the entirety of my personality. Please do ask any questions that you need to.
Practice description
Drawing from my training and personal interest in existential therapy and philosophy, sometimes our work could be to help explore the big questions of life - what is your purpose? What gives your life meaning? What makes it all worth it? The big and bold questions can be exciting to explore together.
When we meet, I do not meet an issue, a problem, or a diagnosis; I meet a human being. I work to create a feeling of safety so that you can feel and express your internal experience. I specialise in listening calmly and deeply to what is said and what is not said. Through discussion and exploration, I work with you to gain a deeper understanding of yourself.
In previous careers, I have worked with horses (as a groom/rider & coachman); as a student nurse; and more recently in the funeral profession. My interests also include people who work in these fields.
I have experience of working with autistic people. I am an LGBTQIA+ ally.
My first session
We'll spend some time talking about the things which are of most concern to you. Often when coming for therapy these things may have been around for some time and the pressure to explore them/change has been building up, or something difficult may have just happened. Either way I'll provide a space for you to be able to discuss and explore what is of most concern for you. This usually helps us to assess and decide what might be most helpful to work on in future.
Most people find some relief from having spoken after the first session about the things they have been holding on to.
The first session is a place for questions too and I'll encourage you to ask anything that feels important for you to know about the way I work or myself. I aim to spend the last part of the time discussing how it has been seeing me and if we both think it is worth working together to explore the things further that brought you. At that point, if we think I would be a person you would benefit from talking with, we'll make a plan to continue and an agreement.
If you decide to have an initial session there would be no obligation to continue counselling with me after that if you did not wish to do so.
What I can help with
Addictions, AIDS/HIV, Anxiety, Autism spectrum, Bereavement, Chronic fatigue syndrome / ME, Cultural issues, Depression, Health related issues, Identity issues, LGBTQ+ counselling, Men's issues, Redundancy, Relationships, Self esteem, Sexual identity, Sexuality, Spirituality, Stress, Work related issues
