Availability

I have some availability in the evenings on Mondays and Tuesdays, and some daytime availability on Thursdays and Fridays, until 3pm. I work face to face, and online.

I generally work to an academic diary and therefore offer limited sessions during longer school holidays (Christmas, Easter, Summer).

About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I'm Jenny (she/her). I am a fully qualified, psychodynamic psychotherapist and counsellor. I specialise in working with adolescents and children, and I have 20 years of experience working with young people within the school system. I was previously a teacher and developed my career in psychotherapy so that I could help support young people's emotional well-being, which | believe underpins everything else.

I have worked with children and adolescents who are struggling with a range of difficulties including: trauma, anxiety, depression, loss, bereavement, parent separation and identity. I also have significant experience of working with, and supporting, neurodivergent young people.

I am also available to work with adults, and offer support in dealing especially with anxiety, low self esteem, and anger, as well as parenting struggles.

In addition to therapeutic work, I can also offer Parenting Support sessions to help scaffold the work taking place with your child or to offer support in times of family difficulty, and I can offer observation sessions of a child within a school or home setting if this is required.

I offer an objective, non-judgemental, safe space in which trust can be built and where, together, we can start to explore any issues you or your child may be experiencing.

I hold a Master's degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy with Children and Adolescents, and a Graduate Certificate in Psychodynamic Practice.

Practice description

I work from a therapy room in Hackney, East London.

Whilst I am trained in the Psychodynamic modality, my one-to-one therapy sessions are always client-centred and adapted to the individual in front of me.

In sessions with young people, there will be opportunities for children to play and draw, as well as talk.

I offer long term therapy in general, however occasionally short term interventions may be possible. It is important that there is open communication between myself and the parents/carers of any young person I work with, to ensure they receive the best possible support. I regularly offer review sessions to parents, and maintain open channels of communication whilst always respecting confidentiality and the young person's right to privacy.

It can take time to build up trust and to feel comfortable in a therapy setting. In order to allow this to develop I would recommend a minimum of 6-10 sessions at the start.

A feeling of safety is key to the work I do, and I work hard to ensure clients feel safe and secure when in the therapy room.

My first session

Please send me an email with a brief description of your situation and any other relevant information.

I offer a free initial Zoom or telephone call for up to 15 minutes. During this time you can ask any questions you have and if you would like to proceed, we can establish a timeline for getting started.

Initially, I will carry out an in-person assessment meeting (ideally, although video call is an option in certain situations) with you, in order to get a full picture of the current situation. If you are seeking therapy for your child, the assessment meetings would not involve them, they would be for parents only. It may be that we have two or three initial assessment sessions, before making a decision about further work. For child or adolescent therapy, these sessions would be a mix of parent meetings and therapy sessions with the child on their own.
