About me and my therapy practice

I work with a Humanistic, Person-Centred approach. Therapists working in this way acknowledge the power of the quality of the client/counsellor relationship for change to take place safely and compassionately.

During our sessions, we will work collaboratively, with curiosity and patience.  The content of your sessions will be led by you, as the expert in your own life.

My work lies in supporting you in giving attention to hidden or otherwise emotions and nuances of interactions and patterns which may be inhibiting your capacity to feel whole, clear and in control.

I see therapy as a method of coming 'home' to ourselves, fostering wholeness as individuals through exploration of our emotions and bodies in a safe and compassionate space.

Practice description

My practice is centred around an empathetic, genuine and non-judgemental listening space.  I work with adults of all ages, on whatever people choose to bring.

I am a counsellor who works with emotions as data; information to help improve relationships with ourselves and others.  I work with somatic (body) awareness as another way of accessing information about our lives and relationships. Noticing what the body is telling us is an effective way of working out that something is wrong and needs compassionate attention.

And, at times, when it feels right, I work creatively, always in collaboration with you. This can be a powerful way of expressing what cannot easily be spoken.

I have a PG Diploma in Person Centred Counselling from York St John university and am further training in trauma-informed somatic counselling.

I value working with a wide range of people, from young adults to older members of our society.  Challenges people face and bring to the therapeutic space include relationship problems, grief, anxiety, change, work-related issues,  depression, anger, and pressure.

Each client / counsellor relationship is different. It is important you find the right person.  If you are feeling that it could be myself, I offer free introductory sessions so you can make your mind up more easily.

My first session

Prior to our first session, I offer a free introductory call or zoom for those who want this.  It helps a lot of people to see and hear a person before being in a therapeutic space with them.  During this time, you can ask questions and get a feel for if you would like to work with me.  Counselling is personal.  It feels right for me that you find someone who is right for you.

Once you decide you would like to continue, there is one form to complete and I will send you details of the venue and a payment link.  I am happy to help with the form if you need this.

Our first session will be 50 minutes long and we will take our time.  I will listen and check my understanding of what you bring.  We will clarify for you boundaries of confidentiality and what you'd like to get out of the sessions and review this over time, as sometimes, things change.
