About me and my therapy practice
My approach to delivering therapy is very much centred on the principles of Person-Centered and Solution Focus Therapy. These approaches start from the assumption that the individual already has the potential to move forward and overcome any barriers, challenges and difficulties they are facing.
Where appropriate, I also draw on mindfulness, music, music psychology and a range of strategies and techniques that have been developed through additional training and 6 years’ experience of being a therapist. My previous career was a qualified teacher, this enables me to draw on significant areas of development and understanding of the impact life events can have on us as individuals; but also, it enables me to be compassionate, understanding and nurturing in my approach.
It has been my privilege to work with a wide variety of different people and help them to move forward. This has meant I have developed my skills to work with a diverse range of difficulties and desires in a therapeutic capacity. In particular long term health conditions, pain, relationship difficulties, anxiety difficulties, depression, neurodivergence, and trauma.
Practice description
Our work together will always start from an exploration of what it is you hope to gain from therapy. From this starting point, we will work together, collaboratively, enabling you both to feel heard and to gain a sense of moving forward.
We will frequently review your progress towards your desired outcomes and the approach we take each session will be modified to reflect developments in your thoughts and feelings as time goes on.
My first session
Our first session will focus on understanding and exploring what your best hopes are from the therapeutic work. Exploring what it is you are hoping to be different as a result of our therapy together and encouraging you to develop this vision in some detail. This approach enables us to work out where you want to go with therapy, where you are right now and set a pathway for going forward. I see my role in our first session as helping you to formulate more fully your own ideas about what you want in life, so that we can begin the process of helping you to move towards this.
