My practice is open between 9.30am and 6pm on weekdays and I am currently accepting new clients who are interested in online or telephone therapy sessions.
As I know how expensive it can be to find a therapist who feels right for you, I offer new clients a discounted rate of £25 for their first session.
Feel free to get in touch to ask about my upcoming availability. Where possible, I aim to respond to enquiries within 24 hours.
About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Dom. I'm an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist offering 1-to-1 online or telephone therapy sessions to support you. I specialise in working with adults and I currently have availability to see people who live in the UK. My experience includes working with people struggling with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, bereavement, stress, relationship issues and more (see below).
How can I help?
If you're reading this and wondering about whether to take that first step into the world of therapy, it might be because:
- you’ve been struggling to cope or you feel overwhelmed, anxious, depressed or numb
- you want to talk to someone but you’re worried people won’t listen or won’t understand
- you feel like you don’t know yourself anymore or you want change
- you’ve reached a crossroads in your life and you don’t know which way to turn
- …or maybe you feel like there’s something wrong but you can’t put your finger on it
If that sounds like you, I can offer a calm, caring and supportive space where we can work together to talk through what’s been going on, start figuring things out and hopefully find a way forward.
Practice description
Training and experience
I’m trained in the person-centred approach to therapy and during our sessions, we can explore whatever issues you'd like to bring to therapy at your pace. In other words, I won't rush you or push you to talk about anything you don't want to.
I aim to offer you a space where you are:
- truly listened to and not judged on what you say
- met with warmth, empathy and compassion
- offered a genuine human connection
- supported while we explore what's been going on
- valued for your individuality
I have further training and/or experience in the following areas (amongst others):
- anxiety
- depression
- self-esteem
- relationships
- bereavement and loss
- LGBTQ+ issues
- spirituality and personal beliefs
- self-harm and suicide
- trauma
I also have an interest in working with clients who are:
- musicians, performers or creatives
- men
- navigating bi/pansexuality
Qualifications
- I hold a postgraduate degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy (MSc, accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy)
- I have completed extensive further training in Online and Telephone Counselling (Certificate, recognised by several professional bodies)
- I am trained in safeguarding both young people and adults, and I have an enhanced DBS certificate (previously CRB) which enables me to work with vulnerable people
I also hold full professional insurance.
My first session
Our first meeting would be around 45 minutes or so and this would give us an opportunity to talk a bit about what’s been happening and what has led you to reach out for support - I’d also ask for a few details about you and your history.
The meeting will give you a taste of how I work and hopefully help you decide whether my approach is what you’re looking for. I offer this at a discounted rate of £25 because I know how expensive it can be to search for a therapist who feels right for you.
Afterwards, we might decide to work together and book in another appointment straight away but there is no pressure to commit to further sessions - you’re free to go away and think about it if you’d prefer.
Please note: Session fees are payable in advance of each appointment and I currently accept payment via bank transfer only. I will send over payment details once a provisional booking has been made.
Next steps
I know from personal experience how daunting it can be to reach out for support, especially from someone you don’t know.
- If you’ve read this far and you’re unsure about whether to book in, you can find more information and the answers to some frequently asked questions on my website at https://domjamescounselling.co.uk
