About me and my therapy practice
Are you in your 40s or 50s and feeling less confident than you used to?
You may have a full life, juggling a career, family, responsibilities and from the outside you look like you’re coping. But inside you feel unsettled, anxious, or unsure of yourself in ways that are new and frightening. You may find yourself overthinking or unable to make decisions, feeling stuck, or worrying about the future.
Midlife and menopause can bring unexpected shifts in identity, confidence and emotional stability. You may experience regret about past choices, fear of change, or a sense that life is passing you by.
I work with women aged 40+ who feel lost, overwhelmed or uncertain about what comes next. Together we create a calm, structured space where you can begin to understand what’s happening emotionally and physically. As your nervous system settles, confidence can grow as you learn to trust yourself again.
If you want to go deeper, we can gently explore the root causes of your anxiety and self-doubt, helping you heal old patterns and move forward with more clarity and self-compassion.
Counselling is not about being told what to do, but about discovering your own voice and finding a path that feels right for you.
I trained as a counsellor after experiencing first-hand how therapy can help when life feels overwhelming and you suddenly don’t know how to cope. One of the advantages of being older is that I’ve lived through many life stages and understand the challenges that bring women to counselling at this point in their lives.
I have a Level 4 Diploma in Integrative Counselling. My core approach is person-centred, but I also use elements of CBT, Transactional Analysis and Attachment Theory.
I offer private counselling either online or in person.
If you’d like to talk to me, I offer a no-charge initial online consultation. I’d love to hear from you at caroleheseltoncounselling@outlook.com
Practice description
Working Together
My counselling room is a space where you can take time away from the external pressures to bring your pain, confusion, anger, and sadness. It’s a place where you can be real, where you don’t have to put on a brave face, or hold everything together. I help you to explore and understand your own needs, experiences and patterns of behaviour, to find a healthy, meaningful way forward. For women suffering with anxiety, that includes helping you to find ways of calming, grounding and regulating your body.
When we’re in pain we want to feel better immediately. The act of telling me about what you are feeling can give you an instant feeling of relief. That’s just the start of the process, though, as it takes time for us to get to know each other, for trust and confidence to develop.
If you decide you would like us to start working together, we will agree a number of sessions – usually for an initial six weeks and review our progress at the end of that time and decide whether you wish to carry on. Ideally sessions should be weekly but when we book a series of sessions in, we can take account of holidays or times when you aren’t able to attend. As we come to the end of our sessions together we might move to fortnightly sessions in preparation for finishing our work together if that feels helpful
Fees: £65 for a 60-minute online session or in-person session held in St Albans. Parking available.
Fees are payable through online payment 24 hours in advance of each session.
My first session
You need a counsellor you feel comfortable to talk to and the initial free consultation session is an opportunity for us to get to know more about each other to decide if we will be able to work together well.
We will talk about what you want achieve and how counselling might be able to help you and discuss any questions you might have.
If you decide to go ahead I will send you my contract for you to read through so that we can discuss it in more detail at our first session and I can answer any questions you might have about it.
The first session is different from the regular sessions as I will be asking a lot of questions to build up a full and detailed picture about you to help me work most effectively with you.
