About me and my therapy practice
Does this sound familiar?
鈥 You live with a chronic illness or disability and know all about pacing and spoon theory but you feel caught between what your body needs and that voice inside your head telling you that you鈥檙e 鈥渓azy鈥 or 鈥渄ramatic鈥.
鈥 Your relationships to those closest to you are struggling because you can鈥檛 communicate what you need or how you鈥檙e really feeling.
鈥 You鈥檙e grieving the life that you thought you were going to have and don鈥檛 want to accept the one that you've got.
鈥 You鈥檙e struggling to understand how to feel when all you hear is 鈥渂ut you don鈥檛 look sick鈥 from others, and your medical needs are being ignored and dismissed by medical professionals.
And so you鈥檙e stuck:
鈥 Feeling unsure how to make decisions
鈥 Unable to put up the boundaries you need to take care of your body and mind
鈥 Putting things off 鈥渦ntil I get better鈥 and not finding any enjoyment in the now
鈥 Feeling disconnected from loved ones who you feel don鈥檛 understand you and left feeling small and confused when navigating the healthcare system
If you're feeling overwhelmed, you're not alone. Your struggles are valid. You are not lazy or dramatic. Living with a chronic illness or disability takes an emotional toll.
In my practice, we focus on processing these experiences, building your resilience, and helping you move forward with purpose. And contrary to what you may think, therapy doesn't have to drain your precious energy. That's why I offer online and telephone sessions that work around your reality.
Together, we can help you navigate chronic illness by:
鈥 Creating a space where you're truly heard, believed and respected, so that you can build the confidence to advocate for yourself
鈥 Exploring your emotional and physical needs, so that you can communicate boundaries and show up in relationships in ways that work for YOU
鈥 Discovering what brings meaning to your life while accepting necessary compromises, so you can live a life with purpose alongside your chronic condition
Practice description
I know that reaching out for support can feel scary, especially when you've had experiences of not being believed. I offer a down-to-earth, genuine space where you can just be yourself, no masking pain, no pretending to be okay.
I have personal experience living with chronic pain, which gives me a deepened empathy for the daily challenges chronic conditions bring. Drawing from both my lived experience and professional expertise, I've supported people living with Fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, FND, Endometriosis, Epilepsy, POTS, Chronic Lyme, Arthritis, and many other conditions.
Oh, and I'm not your typical therapist. I speak like a real person (no therapy jargon!), I swear when it feels right, and I genuinely believe therapy should be a place where you can laugh as well as cry. Together, we'll find an approach that works specifically for you!
I'm LGBTQIA+ affirming and body and fat positive.
My first session
We'll begin with a free 15-minute intro call. No pressure, just a chance to ask questions and get a feel for whether I'm the right therapist for you. When you reach out, please include your phone number so I can respond via text too as those annoying spam filters sometimes hide my emails! I promise to respond to all enquiries.
Your first full session will be a bit more structured than future ones. We'll go through a simple contract about how we'll work together, and I'll ask some questions to understand your experiences, family dynamics, strengths, goals, and basic health information like sleep patterns and current coping strategies.
I completely get how daunting it can be to meet someone new, let alone share personal details with them. You can share as much or as little as feels comfortable, there's no rush. As we build trust, you might feel ready to open up more, but that's entirely up to you.
You can always ask me questions or raise concerns at any point. I'm here to help you, not to make you feel more confused or unsure.
By the end of our first session, my aim is for you to feel heard, respected, and ready to begin your journey towards building the confidence to advocate for yourself, healthier relationships and a more meaningful and purposeful life.
What I can help with
Anxiety, Bereavement, Cancer, Chronic fatigue syndrome / ME, Depression, Disability, Health related issues, Infertility, LGBTQ+ counselling, Loss, Menopause, Personal development, Pregnancy related issues, Relationships, Self esteem, Stress, Women's issues, Work related issues
