About me and my therapy practice
Welcome! My name is Bareha. I am a woman, a wife, a dedicated psychotherapist, lover of books and coffee, pet owner, reality tv enthusiast, amateur true crime detective and so much more. Fun fact about me is I almost always have a podcast playing in the background, all day long!
I have a Bachelors of Science in Psychology with a minor in Sociology and a Masters of Science in Counselling with a focus on Clinical Mental Health. I was born and bred in Oklahoma, USA and moved to the UK in 2022 after marrying my husband.
I became a therapist because wanted to help others (cliche, I know!) I struggled with my own mental health throughout my teenage years and into early adulthood, specifically anxiety, depression, disordered eating and religious trauma. I found myself wanting to be a helper to others like me, going through the same things that I did. I took the leap and changed my degree plan halfway through my original program and never looked back. Being a human is hard. And we all can benefit from support along the way.
Practice description
Every individual has their own identity, story and experiences that shape them. As your therapist, my role is to walk alongside you, providing guidance and support as together we navigate life's challenges. I believe therapy is a collaborative process and that you are the expert of your life. But, together, we will explore the complexities of your emotions, thoughts, and behaviours, helping you gain insight and clarity, whatever the roadblock is.
I have experience in many areas but the ones I have expanded my knowledge on include anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, trauma, miscarriage/infertility, family dynamics, relationships, religious identity, and religious trauma.
Having previously struggled with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and concerns within my family dynamic, I understand firsthand how difficult it can be to overcome this. Alongside a mixture of exploration, processing and reflecting we will come up with a treatment plan that works best for you and your current environment that helps you to manage your surroundings while conquering those tough feelings.
I am a Pakistani Muslim woman and understand the complexities of being a woman of colour in a challenging world where different cultures and religions are not readily accepted. In addition to this, I understand the challenges of navigating where you belong within your culture/religion, as well how familial dynamics and cultural expectations can affect this.
I have spent a large part of my professional career working with adolescents and teenagers through individual therapy as well as through the youth justice system, both in America and the UK. A lot of times our young people just want to feel seen and heard, they wish to relate to others but sometimes their internal struggles skew their view and ability to reach this, whether this is through anxiety, depression, or self-harm. Being a young person is complex enough in this world and our young people deserve support along the way.
