About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced psychotherapist and psychotherapeutic counsellor offering integrative, person-centred therapy to children, young people, adults, and families. I have over fifteen years worth of experience of working with children and families in a range of settings, and over six years of experience as a therapeutic counsellor and psychotherapist.
My approach is humanistic and integrative, meaning I adapt my work to the individual rather than expecting clients to fit a single model. I place great importance on relationship, emotional safety, and working at a pace that feels manageable. I am trauma-informed and experienced in supporting people with complex emotional needs, including anxiety, trauma, loss and grief, disordered eating, self-harm, identity issues, cultural issues, spiritual exploration and life transitions.
Creativity is central to my practice. Where helpful, I draw on creative and experiential approaches such as art-making, play, mindfulness, movement, and exercises using symbolism to support emotional expression and insight. I work in a child-led and collaborative way, remaining open-minded and flexible in finding what supports each person best.
I also have experience working with neurodivergent clients, including those with ASD, ADHD, ODD, and OCD, and aim to offer a space that is inclusive, attuned, and respectful of difference. Ongoing professional development and reflective practice are important to me, and I regularly undertake CPD to inform and deepen my work.
Practice description
My practice offers a warm, thoughtful, and flexible therapeutic space where clients can explore their experiences safely and at their own pace. I work with both children and adults, tailoring sessions to developmental stage, emotional needs, and personal preferences.
Sessions are collaborative and relational, with an emphasis on building trust and understanding. This may involve creative or play-based work to support emotional literacy, communication, and self-esteem. It may also include reflective dialogue, creative exploration, mindfulness-based approaches, or body-based awareness, depending on what feels helpful.
I am particularly interested in how creativity, connection, and the natural world can support emotional healing. Where appropriate, I may draw on nature-informed practices.
I aim to support not only individual clients but also the people and systems around them. When working with children, it is important to me that parents or carers feel appropriately supported and informed, while maintaining clear therapeutic boundaries and the child’s emotional safety.
At present, sessions are offered online, providing a flexible and accessible way of working. My practice is grounded in respect, curiosity, and compassion, and I welcome clients from all backgrounds.
My first session
The first session offers an opportunity for us to meet, talk through what has brought you (or your child) to therapy, and begin to think together about what support might be helpful. I will need to ask some gentle questions to gain an understanding of your current difficulties, relevant background, and what you are hoping for from therapy.
With children and young people, the first session may include creative or play-based elements to help them feel more at ease, as well as time to think about how they would like to work together and what they might like to achieve. Parent or carer involvement will be discussed and agreed in a way that supports the child’s wellbeing and confidentiality.
Initial sessions will include a brief assessment and formulation process. This helps ensure that the work is safe, appropriate, and supportive.
The first session is also a space for you to ask questions and to get a sense of whether working together feels right. There is no obligation to continue beyond this session, and I aim to be transparent and collaborative in discussing next steps.
