About me and my therapy practice

I am a Â鶹ԭ´´-registered counsellor working with children and young people (CYP) across the Wirral and online. I provide psychological support to young people presenting with a wide range of emotional and behavioural difficulties.

My work focuses on supporting young people experiencing self-harm, low mood and depression, anxiety, anger, risk-taking behaviours, and issues relating to identity and gender dysphoria. I also work affirmatively with neurodivergent young people, supporting emotional regulation, self-understanding, and strengths-based development rather than deficit-focused models.

I work integratively, with a strong person-centred foundation, drawing on psychodynamic and CBT-informed approaches where clinically appropriate. My practice is trauma-informed, developmentally attuned, and grounded in creating safety, trust, and emotional containment. I adapt my approach to the individual needs, age, and neurodevelopmental profile of each young person.

I offer sessions face-to-face and online and work in line with Â鶹ԭ´´ ethical standards, with regular supervision and ongoing professional development.

Practice description

My practice is grounded in the belief that young people make sense of their distress within the context of their relationships, environments, and developmental stage. I pay close attention to how emotional difficulties are expressed through behaviour, risk-taking, withdrawal, or self-harm, and work collaboratively with young people to understand what their difficulties may be communicating rather than attempting to simply eliminate symptoms.

I place strong emphasis on building a safe, reliable therapeutic relationship, particularly with young people who may be wary of adults or services. Sessions are paced carefully, with attention to emotional regulation and containment, and I adapt my communication style and interventions to support neurodivergent clients and those who struggle to articulate their internal experiences verbally.

Where appropriate, I help young people develop practical coping strategies alongside deeper emotional insight, supporting both short-term stability and longer-term resilience. I am experienced in working with risk and complexity and hold this within clear ethical and safeguarding frameworks, maintaining close links with GPs, schools, and other professionals when needed.

My first session

The first session is focused on helping the young person feel safe, understood, and clear about what therapy is and how it works. Where appropriate, this may begin with an initial home visit to reduce barriers to engagement, particularly for young people who find new environments, clinical settings, or travel difficult. The emphasis is not on assessment for its own sake, but on building trust and establishing a sense of emotional safety.

During the first session, I explain confidentiality and its limits in a clear, age-appropriate way, explore what has brought the young person to therapy, and check what they hope might be different. Time is taken to understand risk, support networks, and any immediate safeguarding concerns, while remaining sensitive to the young person’s pace and capacity.

If ongoing work is better suited to online sessions, this transition is planned collaboratively. Online therapy is introduced gradually, with attention to privacy, comfort, and maintaining a consistent therapeutic frame. This flexible approach supports continuity of care while enabling young people to engage in a way that feels manageable and empowering.
