About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I am Jackie; a fully qualified Integrative Person Centred Counsellor and CBT Therapist based on the Wirral.

Taking the initial step into counselling is an opportunity for you to explore if you want to feel differently, bring about change, understand your experiences and instigate personal growth. I deeply value and respect each client and your understanding of your experiences. I am confident that I can provide you with the unwavering support you are seeking for progress and to move forward.

My journey into counselling began after witnessing the transformative impact of therapy for my own children and personally experiencing the work of an exceptional therapist firsthand. Feeling empowered to speak freely, heard without interruption and without judgment, inspired me to create that same opportunity for others.

I currently work in private practice with adults of all ages and young people aged 10 to 17 years.  I have experience working in the following areas, although this list not exhaustive;

• Bereavement and Loss

• Anxiety and Stress with a particular focus on supporting young people’s mental health. This may include experiences ranging from unease to overwhelming panic, phobias, OCD behaviours, and the impact anxiety can have on self-esteem, relationships, education, and work.

• Neurodiversity; providing an inclusive and supportive approach

• Domestic Abuse and Unhealthy Relationships

• Child on Parent Violence, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), Suicide Prevention and Crisis Support

I have volunteered for MIND, working with clients from diverse backgrounds and I have volunteered for CRUSE, supporting clients with bereavement, extreme grief and traumatic loss.

I have provided one-to-one support for victims of Domestic abuse and delivered workshops for various groups; including Merseyside Police, and local schools and colleges to help understand Unhealthy Relationships and Coercive Control.

Practice description

It is important to me that our counselling journey begins with understanding and reassurance. Working at your pace with you as my primary focus during our sessions together.

My counselling is rooted in an integrative person-centred approach, empowering you to explore your past, present, or future while paying close attention to the significance of the here and now.  At times, life can feel overwhelming or directionless; working together, we can make sense of those feelings. I am a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist; therefore, I may draw on this approach to bring a structured and goal-focused element to our work when needed.

I understand that for neurodiverse clients, or those struggling with anxiety, the counselling space itself needs to feel safe, inclusive, and adaptable. My aim is always to meet you where you are, working in a way that feels supportive and manageable, helping you develop tools to improve wellbeing and confidence.

I regularly engage in CPD (Continuing Professional Development) to develop my skill set and proficiency as a therapist. Additionally, I attend monthly clinical supervision, working with an experienced therapist to explore my current practice, thus ensuring I maintain a safe and ethical counselling environment.

Once you have made initial contact, we will discuss your expectations and address any questions you may have.

My first session

I understand that attending your first counselling session can be daunting. There are worries about what to talk about, whether you will like the counsellor, or if you will feel overwhelmed when you begin to talk. Please know that I am here to support you.

To help you make an informed decision about counselling, I offer a free 20-minute initial consultation. During this time, you can ask any questions you may have, discuss session arrangements, and have an insight into what to expect. Normally, this consultation is via telephone.

Prior to our first session, I provide clients with a counselling agreement to read through, sent via email, highlighting confidentiality and safeguarding.  This document also contains information about our time together, such as the location, cost and session length. This is a collaborative agreement that can be reviewed and updated at any time. If needed, we may also conduct initial assessments to support our work together.

As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (Â鶹ԭ´´), my practice is guided by their Ethical Framework, ensuring professionalism, safety, and respect in all our sessions.
