Just a quick note that I am often unavailable by phone due to being with clients, so if you call it will likely go to voicemail. Only I have access to my voicemails, so please feel free to leave a message in confidence. Alternatively you can text or email, which is the easiest way to get hold of me.

About me and my therapy practice

Firstly I just want to acknowledge how courageous it is to reach out for support - whether this is your first experience of counselling/therapy or you've seen counsellors before, it's a brave step to take! There are so many options of different counsellors/therapists with different skills, interests and all the jargon to work through, and I know it can feel overwhelming. Where do you even start? And how do you know if you've found the person that's right for you?

Maybe you've had some experience of therapy before and it hasn't gone to plan, or you find yourself repeating the same patterns no matter how much you learn about yourself? It could just feel like a minefield to try to navigate your next, or first, steps, at a time when you're already struggling. I try and make things as easy as possible, by being as clear, upfront and "human" as I can. I'm not here to make you jump through hoops. I work relationally, and focus first and foremost on you feeling safe to just "be", rather than trying to label you or pathologise your difficulties.

I am what's known as an "integrative counsellor/psychotherapist" - I use a range of different ways of working, to meet you where you are, rather than shaping you to fit a therapeutic model. I aim to co-create a space where you can feel safe, seen and heard. This is underpinned by being present with you, deeply listening, curious and perhaps gently challenging you. Working with me can include elements of psychoeducation, exploring the stories you are telling yourself and others, working with your body or working spiritually with the 'unknown' that's happening in the room between us.

Practice description

It's a huge privilege that I might be the person that you trust to share things with, which is why I focus so much on you feeling safe to explore who you are - often by me being as 'me' as I can be, with you.

I'm not a counsellor who will just sit session after session and listen, nodding my head and 'hmmm' ing. I'm here to change lives. It sounds big and impressive, but I firmly believe that counselling has that power, in fact, I know it does, because I've done it myself, and I've seen it with my clients.

I practice from a room located on the second floor of Block B, Old Kelways. There is plenty of parking available and even a coffee shop on site to decompress after sessions. Unfortunately there is no lift access and therefore my room isn't accessible for those with wheelchairs or mobility concerns. In these instances, I can offer online sessions.

My sessions are 50 minutes and are either face to face in Langport or online. My standard fee is £60 per session and there is no pressure to pay any more than this. However, I do work on a sliding scale up to £80 per session, should you wish to contribute a bit more, and if you are in a place to afford to. This would be much appreciated to help towards funding my work at River Counselling Services - https://www.rivercounsellingservices.co.uk - a low cost counselling agency which I founded in 2024 and continue to manage around my private work. This service provides the local community with affordable counselling by supporting trainee counsellors gain experience working with clients whilst studying, and also provides opportunities for connection within the counselling community, something that can be lacking for practitioners.

I also offer a limited number of concessionary rate slots for trainee counsellors and those working in mental health/counselling practitioners.

My first session

Because finding a counsellor can be a massive risk - I offer a free twenty minute chat either on the phone or ideally online (so we can see each other). To sound sale-sy for a second - there's no obligation. We can chat and you can immediately contact someone else if I'm not the counsellor for you, I'd only ever be happy for you, as it's so important that you find someone that's the right fit for this often vulnerable process.

If you then choose to work with me, I will take some further information from you and email you my client agreement. During the first session we will take some time to look at this together, to answer any questions you may have and make sure we are on the same page about working together, and what that might look like.

Availability

My working days are Monday, Tuesday and Friday and I offer supervision either in person or online via Doxy around other client commitments on these days. I work daytimes only.

I am currently undertaking a Diploma in Contemplative Supervision at the Karuna Institute and as I am in training I am offering a reduced rate for qualified practitioners of £50 per 90 minute supervision session. I am unable to offer supervision to trainee practitioners at this time.

About me and my therapy practice

My approach during supervision is the co-creation of a safe relationship where we can explore your clients and your own process, leaning into our collective knowledge and what may also be going on that is unknown or unspoken, with gentleness, presence and curiosity.

I work in a way that is deeply relational, aiming to foster not only supporting you with client work but your own self-development and growth, as after all, you are the tool in this work.

People are complex beings, both yourself and the clients that you work with, so I don't personally believe in trying to fit individuals into a specific therapeutic or supervisory model. I am currently undertaking a Diploma in Contemplative Supervision at the Karuna Institute, which is a holistic approach blending traditional psychotherapeutic concepts and eastern notions of mindfulness and presence.

Practice description

As a supervisor, I draw on the fullness of my being, including my experience both as an integrative practitioner and founder of a low cost counselling service, solid ethical awareness that underpins my practice, my own neurodivergence and diversity, past therapeutic experience, spiritual and transpersonal beliefs, self-awareness and a holistic approach to practice with focus towards what arises in relationship.

Supervision should be fuelling and not just a check box exercise to ensure you meet the ethical requirements of your regulatory body. My aim is to hold, support and empower you as a practitioner and it is my hope that working together is deeply rewarding.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and abide by their Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.

At present I am offering supervision to qualified practitioners only, working in person from my office in Langport or online via Doxy.

My first session

After you contact me, I offer a free 20 minute discussion either online or by phone where you can ask me any questions about how I work and to establish how we both might feel about working together.

Should we choose to go ahead, I then send you my supervisors agreement via email for you to complete prior to our first meeting. Our first session will offer a chance to explore the dynamic between us more fully, and to introduce your clients into the space.
