About me and my therapy practice

My name is Katie Reid, and I am a fully qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (Â鶹ԭ´´). I offer a humanistic, integrative approach to counselling, meaning our sessions are tailored to your individual needs, with you at the heart of the process. My aim is to create a compassionate and supportive space where you can explore your emotions, gain clarity, and move toward meaningful personal growth.

Practice description

In my humanistic counselling practice, I offer a safe and non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and emotions at your own pace. Sometimes, simply having the time and space to process what has happened—or is happening—can be a powerful step toward change and growth.

In our sessions, you are always at the centre of the work we do. I draw on a range of therapeutic theories to support exploration, understanding, and acceptance throughout your journey.

The therapeutic relationship is at the heart of this process, which is why I believe it’s important for us to have a brief conversation before arranging your first appointment. This gives you the opportunity to get a sense of how I work and how therapy might support you.

I’m particularly dedicated to supporting individuals affected by trauma, especially survivors of domestic abuse. Alongside my private practice, I work with STARS (Sexual Trauma and Recovery Services) in Poole, where I’m part of a project providing holistic support for survivors. My role involves counselling, assessment, and empowering individuals as they heal and rebuild their lives.

My first session

During our first session, we’ll discuss an agreement for our work together, and I’ll carry out an initial assessment to gain a deeper understanding of your situation and needs. This provides an opportunity to explore your concerns, expectations, and what you hope to achieve through counselling. It’s important to me that you feel comfortable and safe, as a trusting relationship is key to working effectively together on your journey.

The counselling process is always tailored to your individual needs, but it typically includes the following stages:

Assessment

Agreeing on a focus

Interventions and resources

Evaluation and review

Ending (termination)

If you’re unsure whether counselling is right for you, or would prefer to attend a few sessions before deciding, that’s absolutely fine. You’re welcome to explore at your own pace.
