About me and my therapy practice

I'm Kevina, a trauma-informed, neuro-affirming, LGBTQIA+ welcoming counsellor working with adults. Be in no doubt that seeking support is a mark of strength. Counselling can help you to develop deeper self-awareness and understanding, to strengthen foundations for the future.

In our sessions, we are likely to focus on what's happening in your life now, important events from your past, and your hopes and wishes for the future. All within a confidential space, at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

Areas of life this may relate to are:

  • abuse, trauma
  • grief, loss, bereavement, pet loss
  • relationships, separation, divorce
  • anxiety, depression, stress
  • loneliness, self-esteem
  • work, studies
  • redundancy, retirement
  • illness, ageing
  • miscarriage, infertility, baby loss

Based in Eden Valley on the Cumbria/Yorkshire Dales border, I provide counselling services UK-wide, though may be of particular appeal if you live in Kirkby Stephen, Appleby-in-Westmorland, Penrith, Kendal, Carlisle, Lake District, Barnard Castle, Richmond, Sedbergh, Hawes, Kirkby Lonsdale and surrounding areas.

Before I became a counsellor, I worked just shy of 15 years in a range of health and social care roles in both the NHS and local government, providing strategic and management support to adult social care and other functions. My time there gave me great insight into the wide-ranging needs of people and the challenges faced in getting those needs met.

Prior to this, I spent over five years working in an investment management team, providing settlement support to fund managers. I was like a fish out of water, but really enjoyed the insights it gave me into a world I otherwise had no connection to.

More recently, I have spent time working for a wellbeing charity and providing counselling to people in a custodial setting.

Social justice and inner peace for all are values that I hold dear, and being a counsellor is my way of honouring these.

Practice description

The counselling sessions I offer last 50 minutes, but can be shorter or longer according to need. Sessions typically happen weekly or fortnightly, you choose.

An integrative counsellor, my therapeutic approach is a blend of person-centred and psychodynamic, and through a trauma-informed lens.

I offer a free introductory call, with no obligation for you to proceed to a paid session, if that's what you decide.

Pricing: £45 per 50-minute session. £35 reduced rate for those who may benefit.

My qualifications and CPD:

  • BA (Hons) Social Science
  • Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (Integrative)
  • Certificate in Trauma-Informed Practice
  • Certificate in Working Therapeutically with Autistic Clients
  • Certificate in Online and Telephone Counselling
  • Certificate in Counselling Studies
  • Certificate in Counselling Skills
  • An Introduction to Breathwork

My first session

Our first session is an Introductory Call on phone or Zoom, and is free of charge.

This call enables us to get to know each other a little. You will describe your reasons for coming to counselling and what you're seeking. I will explain my ways of working and the ethical requirements I adhere to. Together we will discuss how sessions might be organised to best suit you.

The introductory call is important, as it enables us both to gauge if I am the right counsellor for you at this time.

During this call, we may also begin the initial assessment and agree on a preferred time and day for your first full counselling session.

I look forward to meeting you.
