About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name is Jo, and I'm so glad you've found your way to Calm Space Counselling.
I'm deeply passionate about helping people feel better not only about their lives, but about who they are at their core. My approach is rooted in compassion, connection, and the belief that everyone deserves to feel seen, heard, and supported.
As human beings, our relationships with others and with ourselves are shaped by our past experiences, our present circumstances, and our hopes for the future. These connections can be beautiful and inspiring, but they can also be painful, complicated, or traumatic.
You may feel as if you're stuck in a cycle, repeating the same patterns or emotions in different situations. These experiences can be especially difficult when they’re linked to harm caused by or to those we are close to.
I have experience supporting both victims and perpetrators of domestic abuse, and I understand how complex and sensitive these experiences can be. Whether you're carrying the weight of what has happened to you, or seeking to better understand your own behaviours and the impact they’ve had, you’ll find a non-judgmental, compassionate space here. Together, we can explore what healing and growth might look like for you.
I offer in-person sessions from a calm, private space in the heart of the Peak District, and I also offer online evening appointments so support is available in a way that fits your life.
If you'd like to find out more, you're welcome to get in touch for a free discovery call. You can reach me at thecalmspacecounselling@gmail.com or on 07597 716943.
I truly look forward to meeting you.
Warmest wishes,
Jo
Practice description
I am a qualified psychodynamic counsellor, and work with individuals to help them in their progression towards a feeling of wholeness. This might come from working through negative patterns of behaviour, conscious and unconscious thoughts and feelings that impact one or more areas of their life.
In a safe and private environment, you will have the opportunity to explore your innermost thoughts, feelings, and behaviours without judgement. Sometimes these thoughts may come from traumatic events that have happened at a particular stage in your life that you are very aware of, in other cases, they can be more unconscious and triggered unexpectedly. I will work with empathy, warmth, and care to help you understand how these feelings might be causing you pain or discomfort, which in turn, can lead to lasting change.
My first session
Please call me to arrange a discovery call, which can be done in person, by telephone or video call; this will be free of charge and last for between 20 and 30 minutes. If we decide to work with each other, sessions will usually be weekly.
