About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name is Catherine.
Through my long-standing commitment to personal and professional development, I have gained a deep understanding of myself. Self-awareness is incredibly important as a counsellor, as it ensures our therapeutic relationship remains focused on you.
My purpose in therapy is to create a safe, supportive partnership where you can overcome external pressures and move toward a greater sense of well-being.
Every person has a natural drive to grow, which helps form a unique sense of self. This includes how you see yourself, the value you place on yourself, and the person you aspire to be.
However, authenticity can be overshadowed when these parts of your identity are shaped by others’ expectations instead of your own genuine desires. When who you believe you are clashes with your deeper nature, it can lead to inner turmoil.
Empathy, acceptance and genuineness.
In our sessions, I actively cultivate a relationship based on empathy, acceptance and and genuineness. My goal is to understand your world from your perspective, connecting with the feelings and meanings behind your words. I honour your unique experience and my acceptance of you as a person is unwavering, regardless of what you bring to our work together. You can also expect me to be honest and transparent.
Meaningful change often occurs 'Moments'.
'Moments' are not intellectual ideas; they are profound feelings or shifts you experience in the present. These moments are characterised by a complete acceptance of a part of yourself, a total integration of your thoughts and physical sensations, and a new, unfiltered experience of your emotions.
These ‘moments’ may be subtle or profound, but they are irreversible. They represent a new sense of wholeness. As therapy progresses, we aim to have more of these moments, allowing you to accept and own an increasing proportion of your life and experiences. This process of continuous integration is what leads to genuine and lasting change.
Practice description
Other areas of support.
Anxiety often stems from early childhood experiences and environmental factors. These formative years are crucial for emotional and social development, and adverse experiences during this time can shape how we perceive and react to the world, setting the stage for anxiety later in life. Understanding the root causes of your anxiety is not just about looking to the past; it is a vital step toward emotional recovery. By exploring these early influences, we can begin to untangle the patterns that are keeping you stuck, helping you to feel more settled.
Relationship with self; The relationship with yourself is the foundation of your emotional well-being. It shapes how you treat yourself, how you relate to others, how you handle stress and how you make decisions. It’s the only relationship guaranteed to last a lifetime so, the more love, care, and honesty you bring to it, the more every other part of your life aligns, your confidence grows, your boundaries strengthen, and your relationships deepen.
You become your own safe place. Not perfect, but whole.
Self-Awareness; Understanding yourself is the gateway to true freedom and authenticity. To understand who you are is to unearth the underlying patterns and beliefs that govern your thoughts and actions. It's about shedding the layers of conditioning and external expectations, allowing you to live in alignment with your true self.
This understanding isn't an end goal but an ongoing practice - a constant journey of inquiry into who you are and why you do what you do. It requires honesty, vulnerability, and the courage to face uncomfortable truths. But in doing so, you create the space for meaningful change and deeper connections with others.
My first session
Our initial phone call is an opportunity for us to connect, for you to ask any questions you may have, for me to understand what has brought you to counselling and to complete a short assessment.
This conversation is to help us both decide if we feel we are a good fit to work together. If we decide to proceed, we will agree on a consistent day and time for our 50-minute sessions.
The length of our work together is entirely up to you. We'll regularly check in to ensure the space continues to support you, and you are free to end therapy whenever you choose.
It's completely normal to feel nervous about starting counselling. I understand that reaching out can feel daunting, but I am here to ensure you feel as supported and comfortable as possible.
For remote sessions, please ensure you have a private and safe space to talk without interruption.
If my way of working resonates with you, please feel free to get in touch. I look forward to the possibility of working with you.
