About me and my therapy practice
A warm welcome to you. I'm Liz, an experienced integrative counsellor based in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire. My therapy rooms provides a calm and comforting space where you can look inwardly, offering yourself the opportunity for growth and change. If you are not a local person, I also offer online sessions to anyone in the UK.
Sometimes life can throw challenges our way that feel too overwhelming to manage alone. In counselling, you can begin to understand yourself better, connect to parts of you that may feel lost or out of reach, learn how to express yourself and in turn improve the most important relationship you have: the one with yourself. Investing time to work on yourself is the kindest thing you can do and the effects will ripple out to those around you.
Some examples of topics that I often work with:
- Relationship difficulties/breakdowns
- Military and front line service trauma
- Life transitions and identity
- Parental wounds such as abandonment or absence
- Low self-esteem, anxiety, depression
- Loss and bereavement
- Pregnancy and birth trauma, parenthood
- Neurodivergence - Post diagnosis support
- Supporting parents of children with additional needs
- Spirituality, mortality, support with life limiting conditions
Practice description
You can expect honest and open communication from me at all times. Our relationship is key to the success of your therapy and so building and maintaining our relationship is top priority to me. My role is to facilitate the sessions and gently challenge you within the safety of our relationship, so that you can be curious about your thinking patterns, your behaviours, your responses to others and learn more about how they occurred and what aspects you might like to change.
I have all sorts of creative bits and pieces in my therapy room that we can explore together. This might be using a sand tray to depict a scenario or theme in your life. It could be using clay to create a tangible object that represents a feeling. It could be using nesting dolls to represent you at different life stages. Maybe flexing some discomfort by colouring outside of the lines as we talk about how it feels not to follow the rules...whatever it is that's going on for you, I'm here to help you through it.
My first session
Prior to the first session, we have an informal chat on the telephone. This gives the basis about what is bringing you to counselling.
The first session usually goes into more detail about your situation and how it is affecting you. This will then inform how I can best support you.
