About me and my therapy practice

I’m a humanistic, creative counsellor and psychotherapist.  I work with adults, older adults, and young people. I meet my clients online only.

Clients experience me as warm, gentle, and insightful - making connections they haven't realised before and offering surprising and disarming questions that can inspire profound change, self-awareness and confidence.

Many of my clients have gone through a surprising change in their lives and find they are struggling to navigate their new reality. This means they are struggling with anxiety and depression, shame and low self-esteem, imposter syndrome/perfectionism, OCD, stress, trauma, family issues, and relationship problems including domestic abuse, childhood sexual abuse - yours or in the family - while navigating major life changes such as divorce and bereavement.

I work to help you process and heal from past traumas and current difficulties with family members and other relationships, develop healthy coping mechanisms for anxiety and depression, build self-compassion and challenge negative self-talk, navigate work/life balance and career advancement, explore and redefine personal identity post-break-up or divorce, and developing strategies for effective communication and boundary-setting.

Many of my clients go on to change their career, get their dream job or the promotion they've wanted even though our work hasn't focussed on that specifically. Their growing confidence and sense of self-worth gives space for them to feel worthy of taking on opportunities they may have previously missed or  passed because they felt they weren't good enough.

My aim is to help you find your authentic voice and know your own value;  to heal from past traumas and build resilience, to feel confident in speaking up, to create a fulfilling life that aligns with your values and ambitions, and for you to feel you are a the person you've always known you could be with the right help.

Practice description

My practice is done online in the traditional dyadic form where we talk through difficulties you may be experiencing. Along with listening compassionately and asking questions to clarify and deepen my understanding of your experiences I may offer creative exercises.

Many of our experiences are driven by unconscious motivations deep within us. The unconscious speaks in metaphor and images so when we find that we don't understand what's made us do something or why we continue to sabotage ourselves in a specific way, I may invite you to try a creative exercise which may help us communicate with your unconscious. You don't have to be good at drawing or writing or think of yourself as creative. You simply have to be willing to try - and it's absolutely your choice to try or not!

I may ask you to creatively describe an uncomfortable sensation in your body. Or write about your experiences - perhaps in the form of a poem, or 'make a mess' on paper with pastels and talk about the feelings that arise.

My first session

I offer a free, 30-minute introductory session on zoom. This is a nice way to meet and see if you'd like to work with me. There is no obligation to work with me after this session. I think it's important to get to know a few therapists before you make your decision.

About me and my therapy practice

Hi! I'm Jacqui. I am a Humanistic therapist integrating existential, Gestalt, and Person-centred theories, with creative modalities. What that means is the sessions are led by you. If you're feeling shy or stuck, I may offer a creative exercise as creativity allows space for your imagination to flow. This can be a safe and gentle way to explore difficult emotions and challenging life situations.

My work is trauma-informed; I aim to flow with your unique nervous system and its varying capacity. I offer compassion and understanding; a sense that there’s someone on your side, and "gets" you.  As our work progresses I may check in with you as to how our relationship is going to help me support you and give you a chance to explore how our relationship may be reflective of other relationships in your life.

Before becoming a therapist,  I was a full-time stay-at-home mum with a variety of side hustles including data entry, child-minding, massage therapy, and teaching yoga and aerobics. I also coached and mentored groups of women to help them live empowered, fulfilling lives. I strongly believe that most difficulties arise from being hard on ourselves in ways that inhibit our growth and happiness. The various contexts we find ourselves in, like our families, work, and culture, can profoundly affect us.  We can explore who you are and who you become in various contexts.

Often, we operate from a blueprint of beliefs gleaned from childhood experiences as interpreted by our very young selves. This may have created outdated and erroneous negative beliefs about yourself and what’s possible for you. Together, we can start to consider the validity of these ways of thinking and feeling in your life as it is now. This work can be done with or without exploring childhood experiences.

I believe you are infinitely loveable. I hope to act as a kind and gentle hand to hold on your journey toward a life filled with self-compassion, confidence, and joy.
