About me and my therapy practice

Therapy tailored to you and what you’re facing, to help you:

  • heal from trauma, loss and pain,
  • explore who you are and your place in the world,
  • create the life you want.

I work with people experiencing the effects of trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship issues and loss.

Focuses include:

• Neurodivergence. Particularly ADHD and AuDHD and the effects of a diagnosis or self-identification for women in mid-life. Also, being an HSP (highly sensitive person).

• Loss. All kinds of losses that can cause us to go through a grieving process. Not just actual bereavement but also things like job loss, identity changes, relationship breakdown.

• All things eco. Ecotherapy, ecopsychology, eco anxiety, eco grief. Navigating life when you’re aware of the scale of the climate and biodiversity crises but stuck in systems that carry on doing more damage.

Who I am

Authentic: What you see is very much what you get with me. I’m down to earth, genuine and warm. I’ll make you a cuppa if you want one, I’ll probably swear and sometimes we might share a joke.

Professional: I’m trained to Masters degree level, fully insured and in regular supervision. I’m a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and abide by its ethical framework. I engage in ongoing training and professional development.

Varied experience: I’ve been a newspaper journalist, a teacher, a writer of short stories, a forest school leader, a proofreader and editor, a mother, a wife, a divorcee, a partner, a daughter. My passions include a good cup of tea, a walk in the woods, sea swimming, my garden and writing.

Lived experience: Of depression and anxiety, of being an HSP, and of AuDHD self-identified during perimenopause. Of fertility issues and relationship breakdown. And of being a counselling client.

Practice description

How I work

Integrative: I draw on different therapy approaches to suit you. This might include examining thinking patterns and negative thoughts (CBT), looking at childhood experiences and your patterns in relationships (psychodynamic, attachment) or your values, purpose and place in the world (existential). I can also bring in ecotherapy and creative approaches if you want them.

Person-centred: My foundation is to honour your autonomy and your inner wisdom. You are the one who has lived your life, in your body, with your mind and emotions, your experiences, values and identity. I am always working to understand what it is like to be you and to accept you without judgement.

Gentle challenge: As an objective outsider, I can bring in alternative perspectives. I can notice patterns that may not serve you or may pull you in different directions. I can help you to explore the things you’ve been avoiding or that you feel shame about – always in collaboration with you, at your pace and ultimately your choice.

Choices and flexibility: I can work with you in my therapy room in Runcorn, outdoors in and around Frodsham, Runcorn or Widnes, or online. I offer flexibility over how often you have sessions, with some clients coming weekly, some fortnightly and some on a more occasional basis. I also offer single-session extended (2hr) ecotherapy (more info on my website www.janinekeeblecounselling.co.uk

Structural awareness: I always hold in mind the societies and cultures we live within and potential problems they can cause for individuals. Things like gender stereotypes, expectations in workplaces, the harm caused by prejudice. I’m not here to tell you that you must fit in when the problem lies within the world you live in, not within you.

My first session

I offer a free initial consultation by phone, which usually takes around 15-20 minutes, so we can explore the possibility of working together. It's your chance to get to know me a little and decide if I feel like the right therapist for you, and my chance to get to know a little about what brings you to counselling and how I feel I may be able to help.

Following that, we can arrange your first session outdoors, online or in my therapy room. I do have further info on my website, or I can send it by email, about how outdoor counselling sessions work.

All sessions are 50 minutes and cost £52.

I aim to collaborate with clients around accessibility to outdoor spaces so please get in touch if you would like to discuss this.

I check my email and voicemail Monday to Friday at least once a day and aim to reply to enquiries within 36 hours.

This directory entry was reviewed in January 2026 and I have current availability for new clients.
