About me and my therapy practice
Hi I鈥檓 Diya and I am a qualified trauma-informed integrative counsellor and therapist. I offer a reflective, culturally sensitive, and non-judgmental space where you don鈥檛 have to spend time and energy educating me, or explaining or justifying important parts of who you are, your culture, or your traditions.
You might be here because something in your life doesn鈥檛 feel quite right.
Perhaps you鈥檙e feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or emotionally drained, or you notice anxiety, low mood, or self-doubt showing up more often than you鈥檇 like.
You might be going through a life transition, experiencing a loss, or finding that past experiences continue to shape how you feel and relate in the present. You may be looking for a safe space to explore experiences of being othered, facing racism or discrimination.
You may be struggling to identify what is important to you, what your needs are and how to live a more meaningful life.
Whatever brings you here, you don鈥檛 need to have the 鈥渞ight words鈥 as therapy can be a space to make sense of things at your own pace.
I am Indian and have lived, studied, and worked in different countries. Before training as a therapist, I worked in research, marketing, and ran my own business. These experiences inform my understanding of work-related stress, performance pressure, transitions, migration, and the emotional complexity of living between cultures.
Practice description
I offer online sessions which are either short-term (usually upto 20 sessions) or longer term depending on your needs and requirements. Sessions are for 50 minutes.
My integrative training allows me to draw on humanistic, psychodynamic, trauma-informed approaches, CBT, and mindfulness, depending on what feels most helpful for you. I don鈥檛 believe in a one-size-fits-all approach; instead, we work collaboratively to shape therapy in a way that feels meaningful, responsive, and supportive.
I pay close attention to the wider contexts that shape our lives, including culture, family systems, intergenerational experiences, migration, racism, social expectations, and the current socio-political climate. These influences matter, and they are welcome in therapy.
Many clients that I support are people of colour coming from diverse cultural backgrounds and life experiences, holding multiple roles, identities, and expectations at once.
My first session
It is important to find the right therapist with whom you can feel comfortable and safe. With this in mind, I offer an initial free no-obligation online 20 minute conversation.
This is an opportunity for us to connect and introduce ourselves. I can answer any questions that you have and discuss practicalities such as your availability. If we both feel we can work together, we will schedule our first session together.
In the first session, we will look at what is bringing you to therapy in more detail. I will ask you more questions to better understand your background, challenges, what your expectations are. We can then collaboratively decide on the way forward in future sessions.
If you鈥檙e considering therapy and would like to explore working together, you鈥檙e welcome to get in touch to arrange an introductory conversation.
