About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I鈥檓 Marissa 鈥 an integrative counsellor for individuals and couples.

I'm passionate about holding space for people 鈥 whether you're navigating emotional overwhelm, relationship struggles, or simply feeling lost. I believe that healing isn鈥檛 one-size-fits-all, which is why I offer a gentle, flexible approach rooted in connection, creativity, and care.

Imagine therapy as yourself telling your story of where you have been, where you are now and how you would like your story to go. Or that we are detectives investigating riddles of stuckness, working together to connect the dots and solve them.

For couples therapy, it鈥檚 best described as a dance happening between two people, and what was once a tango, we are now stepping on each other's toes, so we look into how you both danced before you met and the indluence of past dance teachers, the type of dance you are both trying to achieve in the presence and help you both to find your rhythm again.

I鈥檓 an outgoing and enthusiastic person, and I bring my full, authentic self into the work I do. As someone with dyslexia (hello neurospicy), I鈥檝e come to see the world through a unique and creative lens. This neurodivergence is a strength 鈥 it helps me connect in more intuitive, imaginative ways, and approach each client with fresh, curious eyes.

I hold a Foundation Degree in Integrative Counselling for Adults and am Relate-trained in relationship therapy. My practice weaves together a range of therapeutic models, including person-centred, gestalt, psychodynamic, systemic, solution-focused, and a little CBT, always tailored to you and your needs. However, beyond all these models, the relationship between us is the most important.

When I鈥檓 not working with clients, I love to get creative 鈥 especially crafting handmade wire trees by hand. These little trees feel symbolic of my work: rooted, growing, and unique to each person鈥檚 journey. I also have a deep appreciation for nature, art, and all things handmade and meaningful.

My first session

I offer a 15min free consultation and from this if you would like to move forward with counselling the first session will be an assessment.

Here I鈥檒l ask about your history, medical background and what you would like to gain out of therapy. Then from this we can both decide whether we make a good match for you to take your journey. As much as it is a privilege to work with people I understand I may not be the right fit and equally if I thought you may need someone with better experience or expertise I would recommend/refer on.

Taking a step into therapy is courageous and admirable so I want to make sure that when you go through your story you will be saying 鈥渢hat was worth it鈥.
