About me and my therapy practice
If you're a mum finding yourself becoming more irritable, frustrated and snappy, you're in the right place. Maybe you've tried containing the rising fury or increased anxiety but nothing works. You just want the best for your child but you feel like you're slowly unravelling and nothing you do is good enough.
I help mums just like you, find some calm in body and mind so you can feel more like the mum you want to be, without losing yourself to the pressures you're facing.
As an integrative therapist I work with you to slow things right down and get curious about what’s really going on beneath the anger or anxiety. Often, it’s not just about what happens in the moment, it’s about what’s been building up over time. For example, we might explore:
• the pressure and mental load you’ve been carrying
• the parts of you that didn’t get what you needed growing up &Y how having children often shines a light on this
• old hurts or losses that still ache
• how your body reacts when you feel ignored, criticised, or out of control
But we don’t dive straight into the thick of it. We go gently, helping your body feel safe (aka nervous system work). You are always in control & I check in with you regularly for this purpose.
Helping your body feel safe might look like:
• simple grounding or breathing techniques
• gentle visualisations to calm your system
• learning how to notice what is happening in your body so you can catch it before it feels too much.
Everything happens at your pace, with kindness, not pressure.
Therapy with me gives you space to listen to your anger or anxiety. It’s coming from a part of you that is currently feeling unheard and scared & it’s shouting loud to get your attention.
Think of it like a close friend who see’s what you’re going through and keeps pestering you about changing something!
When you stop fighting anger and anxiety, and start listening to it, things begin to shift...
Practice description
I'm an integrative therapist which means I use a number of different therapy types. This gives me the flexibility to tailor our sessions to you. I've worked with many mums and no two people's experience is ever the same so I feel it's important that therapy reflects that.
The therapy types I draw on include person centred, compassion focused therapy, parts work and nervous system work. I have experience of working with trauma (of various shapes and sizes) and prioritise you feeling safe in anything we discuss.
I also bring in systemic awareness to our work because being a mum is hugely influenced by the expectations of society, the systems that often let us down and the messages that keep us stuck in patterns that can feel frustrating or confusing.
My first session
To start our journey together I offer a free initial phone call which lasts roughly 20 minutes. This can be booked online in the link above.
Our initial call is space where we can briefly explore what you're experiencing at the moment, you can learn a bit more about what it's like to talk to me and it gives you a chance to ask any questions you might have. There's no obligation, the most important thing is for you to get the right therapist for you.
Starting therapy together, we meet weekly as it's important to build our relationship and trust for therapy to work. However you are always in control and there is no set number of sessions.
There's no assessment, questionnaires or interviews to get started, simply connection with a therapist who is also a mum who has been where you are.
