About me and my therapy practice
I’m Jon. I’m an integrative counsellor, and I’m currently able to offer sessions in-person, via video call or over the phone.
I trained in a number of different psychotherapeutic approaches. My aim is to adapt how I work, and which approaches I’m drawing upon, depending on the needs of the client I am working with.
I want to help clients bring about the change they seek - that might be a change in behaviour, or a change in outcomes, or it could be a change through developing a greater understanding.
I believe that the most important thing for therapy is that you feel safe and secure. I want to create a space, either in person or online, where you’ll feel comfortable to explore without fear of judgement.
There’s no real substitute for talking to find out whether you would want to work with me. I offer a free 25 minute consultation over the phone, so if you think you would like to discuss working together, or if you have any questions, please email, call, or text me using the contact box or mobile number to the left of this profile.
Practice description
My route into counselling was through supporting clients with loss and bereavement. First I volunteered with, and then I became a member of staff at a bereavement charity, where I worked while I completed my counselling training.
My practice now is much broader than solely working with loss, but many of the lessons that I learnt through my early work with grief continue to resonate in my current work with clients. Partly this resonance is because some of the issues which I work on with clients most frequently (such as feelings of depression, anxiety, ‘feeling stuck’) I first encountered with clients who were grieving. But the most valuable lesson I learned from working with bereaved clients is an understanding of how to work with a client to help bring about change.
I am keen to keep my practice as broad as possible. I worked hard to train and qualify as a counsellor because I enjoy working with people, and I believe my practice and my clients benefit from my determination to try and work with as broad a range of people as possible, across all the areas I am qualified to support.
