About me and my therapy practice
鈥淲hen you go inwards with gentleness, even though the journey might be precarious, you will still in no way be going into isolation. Rather, you will be coming into deeper kinship with all that is鈥
John O鈥橠onohue (The Inner Landscape)
Looking for talking therapy can be daunting, whether you are considering it for the first time or perhaps seeking a new perspective, choosing the right counsellor for you is important.
Counselling and psychotherapy can offer the opportunity to illuminate, explore, process and potentially re-frame your experiences, thoughts and feelings. My work is collaborative, compassionate, person-centred and trauma responsive, and my aim to offer you a safe space where all parts of you are welcomed and heard
The core principles of my approach are to:
- Be present with acceptance and compassion whilst you explore the experiences, thought processes, feelings and parts of you that might not always be seen by others that could be impacting your relationships or capacity to fulfil your true potential.
- Provide a safe space, a strong and robust therapeutic relationship and a place where you can find your own unique combination of healing, growth and change.
- Allow you to lead and guide the focus of our work and unearth your own insights and solutions. Although my way of working is non-directive, I might gently support this process with the use of empathic questioning or honest perceptions but never without compassion and acceptance.
- Work holistically to support you to find self-awareness, stillness of mind and a new connection with yourself.
- Be trauma responsive at all times, by incorporating trust, safety, empowerment, choice and collaboration into our relationship, interactions and environment.
Practice description
I have over 20 years experience in holding space for individuals, families and groups in clinical, therapeutic and educational roles in the NHS, alongside work in community health projects and third sector organisations. I am trained in the Humanistic person centred approach which supports you to freely explore your whole life experience. I have experience of offering short- and long-term psychotherapeutic counselling to a diverse range of adults, specialist work with 18-25-year-olds, and as an initial assessment counsellor within Edinburgh counselling services.
As a facilitator of trauma informed and responsive education for professionals as part of Scotland's national training programme, I bring knowledge, skills and core values from this work to my approach.
I work with anyone over 16 and offer either short or long-term psychotherapeutic counselling. I have experience of working with a broad range of issues, including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, addictions, loss and trauma.
Alongside offering person centred counselling and psychotherapy, I also work holistically either one to one or in closed groups integrating yoga and psychotherapy. This harnesses the power of the body and breath to find stillness in the mind, offers clients an opportunity to experience the benefits such as emotional regulation and self-awareness and optimises the benefits of talking therapy. I am a registered yoga teacher and have completed additional training in Trauma Informed Yoga and Yin Yoga.
My first session
I offer a free 30 minute face to face initial session or a 15-30 minute initial call so that you can get a sense of me, and to explore how we might best work together - please contact me and we can get this set up.
I can offer weekly or fortnightly sessions, and can work online in some circumstances. I work from peaceful rooms in both central Edinburgh and Portobello, I offer 50-minute sessions at 拢60 (拢70/60 mins Integrative Yoga Psychotherapy) and have a limited number of concessionary spaces available - please contact me to chat if cost is a barrier.

About me and my therapy practice
As part of my MSc in Advanced Counselling and Psychotherapy Studies, I am currently completing my PG Cert in Clinical Supervision. I am offering free supervision sessions to qualified counsellors and psychotherapists as I complete my 麻豆原创 practice hours and portfolio.
Supervision is a fundamental and imperative part of many professions within the health and social care world, and my own positive experiences of supervision within the NHS and as a counsellor and psychotherapist over the last 9 years drew me to begin my training as part of an MSc in September 2025.
I aim to cultivate a supervisory relationship based on collaborative enquiry and the Seven Eyed model of supervision, incorporating elements from my background in trauma responsive practice. You can read more about my approach, experience and qualifications below, and if you would like to have an introductory session to see how we might work together please contact me and we can set this up.
Practice description
Approach
My training has focused on the Hawkins and Shohet Seven Eyed Model of Supervision, a transtheoretical, relational model, drawing from systemic, humanistic, psychoanalytic, and cognitive-behavioural psychotherapy theories, as well as adult learning theory. Two interlocking systems鈥 the client work system (the client, the supervisee鈥檚 interventions, and the client-supervisee relationship), and the supervisory system (the supervisee, the supervisor, and the supervisory relationship) and the wider contexts of these two systems - form the seven eyes.
Over the last 4 years I have facilitated trauma responsive training for professionals as part of Scotland's national programme and been involved in supporting organisations to implement trauma informed practice. I aim to bring the knowledge, skills and core values from this work to my approach in supervision. I have been involved in the development and delivery of several pieces of training which focus on foundational knowledge around trauma, reflective practice and the trauma informed principles of trust, safety, choice, collaboration and empowerment.
Research links the implementation of these principles within the supervisory relationship forming a physically and emotionally safe place for vulnerability, communication, listening without judgement and also receptivity to non-critical feedback 鈥 which offer enhanced practice to benefit the client and a protective factor in counsellor burnout or secondary traumatic stress.
I also aim to work in a way that cultivates 鈥渃ollaborative enquiry鈥 鈥 a term to describe the supervisor and counsellor with equal influence, understanding what is happening within the counselling relationship and with the counsellor. I am interested in embodied and contemplative practices such as yoga, mindfulness and meditation and often incorporate this into my work with clients.
