About me and my therapy practice
Welcome to my profile. You may be coming to therapy with something specific in mind, or you may not be entirely sure why you’re here - only that something doesn’t feel quite right.
My work is rooted in psychodynamic thinking. I pay close attention to what is said, and also to what may be harder to put into words. Through being listened to in this way, it can become possible to begin listening to yourself differently - recognising patterns, recurring difficulties, and aspects of your experience that may previously have felt out of reach.
I won’t offer advice or tell you what to do. Instead, I will think with you about what you bring, and occasionally draw attention to things that may open up new ways of understanding yourself.
The space is yours to fill. There is no fixed agenda, and no single way therapy is meant to go. Two people sit in a room together and talk; what emerges from that is often where the work begins.
I offer a consistent and confidential setting in which you can bring whatever feels important, whether for a fixed period or on an open-ended basis, in person or online.
I also work with couples, offering a space to think together about patterns within the relationship and areas of difficulty or conflict. Sessions are available online or in person in Hove. I hold a Certificate in Working with Couples from the Connexus Institute and am currently undertaking further training in the Gottman Method.
Practice description
I offer a confidential and consistent space in which you can explore whatever may be troubling you, at your own pace. As a psychodynamic therapist, I am interested in how past experiences and unconscious patterns shape current thoughts, feelings, and relationships.
Through thinking together about what you bring, it can become possible to recognise patterns, make sense of difficulties, and begin to understand how they may be affecting your life now.
People come to therapy for many reasons: you may be feeling anxious, low, or stuck; struggling in relationships; or facing a significant life change. You do not need to have everything clearly defined before you begin. Part of the work is discovering what feels important and meaningful for you.
My approach is collaborative and attentive. I listen carefully and offer reflections that may help deepen your understanding of yourself. Over time, this can support greater self-awareness and open the possibility for change.
Sessions usually take place weekly at a regular time and last 50 minutes. I offer both open-ended and shorter-term work, depending on your needs.
My first session
The first session is a chance for us to meet and begin thinking together about what has brought you to therapy. You can say as much or as little as feels comfortable, and I may ask some gentle questions to begin to understand your situation.
It is also an opportunity for you to get a sense of how I work and whether you feel at ease with me. There is no obligation to continue beyond this initial meeting.
Towards the end, we can think about whether it feels helpful to go forward and, if so, agree a regular time to meet. I will also outline practical details such as confidentiality, cancellations, and fees.
There is no formal assessment or paperwork required in advance. I may make brief notes during or after the session, in line with professional guidelines.
