About me and my therapy practice
I'm Katy, I'm an Integrative Therapist which means that rather than specialising in one particular mode of therapy, I have some knowledge of various psychotherapeutic approaches to counselling, this allows me to tailor the type of therapy to the client.
I would consider myself a directive therapist as I like to observe, reflect, challenge and use techniques using the floor space and techniques where applicable, this approach would be different when clients are experiencing feelings of loss. I am able to adapt the therapy as and when required in accordance with the client's needs.
Above all, I'm human and subject to the same fallibility as everyone else, as-well as being a therapist, I am a mum, a friend, a sibling, a daughter and well... mostly I'm just Katy. I have grieved, I have made many mistakes, I have had anxious thoughts, I've hurt people. I have felt the full spectrum of human experiences and all of that has taught me and shaped who I am now. If you feel we may be a good match please do get in touch.
Practice description
I have a special interest in the role of the subconscious and how that interacts with our conscious (story making brain). I am working towards an Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) Mastery Certificate and currently have an Advanced Diploma Certification in this subject. I am also trained in IEMT which uses eye movement to reprocess difficult emotions and traumatic experiences.
I believe in the importance of challenging unhelpful thinking habits and of consciously choosing alternative ways of thinking and being so we align more with our subconscious desires. I encourage self-introspection openness and non-judgement in our work together to enable therapeutic movement to happen.
For clients who are analytical about why we are the way we are, I am happy to explore this and provide knowledge that might be useful in you gaining a greater understanding about what we know affects human behaviour.
For clients who have endured loss, I believe in the importance of expressing grief in whatever way is comfortable for the client, loss is the most difficult thing we have to go through as humans and therefore there simply is no right and wrong way to experience loss, but there are helpful ways to work with grief. I can offer a space of trust and safety so we can work on learning to live with loss.
I can teach regulation techniques, conflict management tools and much more, I am frequently attending training as is required by the Â鶹Դ´ to improve my competence this helps me expand on the tools available to help.
