About me and my therapy practice

I am a Psychodynamic Counsellor and Psychotherapist and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I work with adults one on one either face to face or remotely via video call. I work with a range of issues including but not limited to: anxiety, depression, addiction, low self-esteem, emptiness, bereavement, loss, self harm, abuse, trauma, stress, relationships and issues in the workplace.

The relationship we have with ourselves is crucial to our happiness and sense of fulfilment, it also dictates how we relate to other people and our loved ones. When we are not well connected to ourselves we can feel like nothing quite satisfies us, through therapy we aim to find a version of ourselves which we are happy with and shake off the hold our past experiences and past relationships have over us.

The therapy I offer focuses on the exploration of ourselves and our relationships: who we are, what we have experienced, what we have survived. The important relationships in our lives, both past and present, impact both positively and negatively how we view ourselves: we understand ourselves through how others behave towards us. It’s important that we take on the negative parts of our past and present, it is natural to want to avoid these things but when we cut them off we also cut off the compassion we could have for ourselves. Inner strength comes from feeling whole, understanding and accepting the good and the bad: our past trauma does not need to define us, but it is also an important part of understanding who we are. Through exploring our past in a safe and nurturing environment we can gain a better understanding of how it may have moulded us for better or for worse.

Starting any type of therapy can be daunting, especially if life and events are feeling overwhelming, no matter what has brought you here you will be treated with warmth, confidentiality and respect.

My first session

I work by having a few initial sessions, these form an opportunity for us to meet and discuss you, your past, your present and what has brought you into therapy. I tailor my work to the individual so these sessions have no set agenda, they form an opportunity for me to hear from you about your life so that I can get a picture of who you are. These sessions form an introduction to each other, me to who you are and you to how I work, once this is established, we will then formalise our continued work with a therapeutic agreement.
