About me and my therapy practice
Hey, I鈥檓 Luke. I work with clients in London, Liverpool, and online. My passion is helping young adults to adults (20 to 40) with relationship problems, depression and all kinds of anxiety, from social anxiety to that deep existential kind. And bumping into our lovely friend, shame along the way, because that tends to come with the territory.
I also focus a lot on;
- Couples Therapy
- Low self-esteem / Low self-confidence
- ADHD
- Bereavement and Breakups
I offer traditional talking therapy that鈥檚 guided by Attachment theory, Emotion Theory, Cognitive Behavioural therapy (CBT) and humanistic therapies (Person-Centred, Relational).
But that鈥檚 just therapy jargon! What does that mean?
That means each session is about you and your emotions. Using the therapeutic relationship that we鈥檒l form together to build safety (through, empathy, no-judgement and honesty) so we can explore the parts of ourselves, emotions, habits and behaviours that hurt. The way we do this is by feeling, hurting, crying, raging, and making mistakes, all the messy humanness that comes with living.
鈥淲e鈥檝e got to feel it to heal it鈥
Practice description
How I work
I don鈥檛 believe in a passive approach to therapy, I aim to be a present companion through your journey because it鈥檚 a hell of a lot easier to have company going into the unknown than being alone.
I do bring myself into the space to normalize what it is to be human and real. I鈥檝e had personal experience with anxiety and depression. Experienced my fair share of pain, close bereavement and my continual process of grief, constant challenges of feeling not enough and people-pleasing. All the good stuff.
I value deep connection, and our ability to make meaning which I find constantly inspiring. Love all things gaming and arty/creative, am an avid explorer (having lived in 3 different countries). I鈥檓 a proud big brother, a terrible multi-tasker, and just another person trying to make sense of what it is to be human.
So if you are just skim-reading or you have made it to the end of my rambling and would like to see more of what my way of working is like. Or if you are just curious and want to have a chat send over a message and we can set up a free 20-minute call.
I wish you all the best and luck in finding the right therapist for you.
Take care, Luke 馃槉
My first session
In the initial 20-minute session, my primary goal is to establish a foundation of trust and understanding between myself and the client. I begin by creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere, emphasizing the confidential nature of our interaction. I introduce myself, providing a brief overview of my background and counselling philosophy.
I encourage the client to share their reasons for seeking counselling, allowing them to express their concerns, goals, and any expectations they may have. I also inquire about their personal history, including relevant aspects of their life, relationships, and experiences. This helps me gain a preliminary understanding of the client's background and the context of their current challenges.
By the end of the session, I aim for the client to feel more comfortable, understood, and informed about the counselling process. I may provide a brief overview of what future sessions might entail and discuss any immediate steps or strategies that could be beneficial. Ultimately, this initial session sets the stage for a collaborative and supportive therapeutic relationship.
