About me and my therapy practice
The idea of beginning therapy can be daunting, and finding a therapist that feels like the right match often seems an overwhelming task. A simple start is contacting someone who you believe you could genuinely connect with; you can read more about me below:
My name is Rebecca, I am a Â鶹Դ´ accredited person-centred, trauma-informed counsellor and psychotherapist based in Greater Manchester, also delivering therapy online across the UK.
My career began in LGBTQI+ youth work informing the core values of my therapeutic practice which are social justice and allyship across marginalised communities. As a mixed-race, bisexual, neurodiverse woman it is important for me to create a safe space for clients, no matter how they identify. I support clients of all genders, racial backgrounds and sexual orientations including ethical non monogamy. I support neurodiverse clients, and those living with health conditions and impairments. I endorse a kink-positive approach.
Practice description
My own experiences taught me about our innate capacities for healing and growth encouraged by the right professional support. Now, I work to encourage the same in my clients by embodying key therapeutic principles of empathy, honesty, kindness and respect. My approach is warm and friendly; and while my style may be deemed more informal, my focus on creating safe and non-judgemental relationships is key to achieving therapeutic results with my clients.
My process allows you to explore your issues organically, however I also offer psychoeducation and practical tools to encourage knowledge, confidence, and personal growth within your therapeutic journey. Ultimately, I trust the answers lie within you, and it is my role to support you to uncover solutions which may feel out of reach at this time.
For those who wish to work this way, I enjoy incorporating somatic elements to reacquaint your body and mind, all towards a deeper understanding of yourself and your emotions. We use expressions such as "heartbreak" and "gut-wrenching" everyday, and connecting with the body to trust what it is telling us can produce amazing results.
My recent MSc research examined the healing potentials of BDSM for people with a history of interpersonal and/ or structural trauma; despite my thesis being trauma-focused, I work in a non-pathologising way with BDSM and kink identified clients.
My first session
If you think we could work well together get in touch, I offer a free 20-minute phone consultation allowing us to connect; where you can ask any questions and we may establish whether I could suitably support your therapeutic goals.
Moving forward, the first session will be easy going, allowing us to connect and begin to get to know each other. We will agree on the practical elements of our work together, before having some space to explore what brings you to therapy and how I can support.
