About me and my therapy practice

Everyone calls me Nat for short, so feel free to do the same.

I'm told that I'm easy-going, warm, and people say that my calm nature is contagious.

In my view, the most important part of therapy is trust. It should be a place where you can let your guard down, and say anything without feeling embarrassed or ashamed. I know from having my own counselling (yes, I've struggled too), that finding someone you 'click with' really makes a difference.

Experience:

I originally started out as a general counsellor, and have experience with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, anger, loss, relationships, and feeling generally unsettled.

Over the years, I have found that I work well with people who need time to build trust, and prefer a gentle pace, particularly those who have experienced abuse, trauma, neglect, or harm in relationships, and may feel unsafe with others, on high alert, or disconnected from themselves.

I'm also passionate about working with queer identity and neurodiversity, as well as anyone who feels like an outsider or othered by the judgments of society. In a world full of rigid labels and black & white views, it's easy to find ourselves feeling lost, misunderstood, or exhausted. Although I can't change the world, I can offer you a place where you can drop the masks, talk without a filter, and be completely yourself.

As someone who's always sought to challenge what we're told is "normal", I am very comfortable working with less conventional life views, and welcome you bringing anything to the conversation, without worrying that I'll immediately try to 'fix' it.

Qualifications:

- MSc Counselling & Psychotherapy (Distinction) - Keele Uni

- Post Graduate Certificate in Counselling - Keele Uni

- BA (Hons) Business Management (MMU)

I've also completed specific training in Trauma Informed Therapy, Abuse, C-PTSD, Neuro-affirming Therapy, and Relationship Counselling.

Practice description

In sessions, we'll talk things through at your pace, and see if we can help you feel more at ease. This might involve dealing with emotions and memories that feel heavy or consuming, looking to understand or make sense of things, exploring different perspectives, gently challenging blocks created by old habits or painful life events, or simply letting it all out, having a vent, cry, laugh, or swear!

I believe that through reflection and self-awareness, we can gain deeper understanding, and build a life that feels more fulfilling. But this isn't always a straight road, and everyone processes the world differently. I therefore prefer to lean away from structured exercises and techniques. Instead, I focus on providing a steady space, built on transparency, human connection and straightforward jargon-free conversation. Somewhere you can share the load, look inward, and really get in touch with yourself.

You're always in control of what we explore.  I'll sometimes ask questions, offer observations/suggestions, or provide some direction if you're not sure where to start, but won't patronise you or pressure you into anything that doesn't feel right.
