About me and my therapy practice
Hi I'm Nat (he/him),
Most people describe me as easy going, friendly, and say that my calm nature is contagious. I approach the world with open-mindedness, and very much enjoy exploring different perspectives on life.
For me, the most important part of therapy is trust. It should be a place where you can let your guard down, and say anything without feeling embarrassed or ashamed. I know from having my own therapy (yes, I've struggled too), that finding someone you 'click with' is a huge part of the process.
Experience:
I have a good deal of experience with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, anger, loss, and relationships.
I also have specific experience helping people navigate the impacts of trauma, abuse, and Complex PTSD; impacts that may have left you feeling on high alert, disconnected from yourself, broken, or unable to regulate your emotions.
A big passion of mine is talking with people who feel stigmatised or othered by the judgments and pressures of society. In a world full of rigid labels and black & white views, we often adapt ourselves to fit with the norm, which can be exhausting and isolating. I understand through personal experience, what it can feel like to navigate life outside of traditional or mainstream expectations. As such, I very much welcome conversations about gender identity, sexuality, relationship diversity, neurodiversity, and unconventional life views.
I know that life can also be messy, and our struggles don't always fit neatly into one box. I'm therefore happy to talk with you about anything, with a belief that good counselling is more about human connection than formal credentials. So feel free to reach out, even if your difficulties aren't listed.
Qualifications:
- MSc Counselling & Psychotherapy (Distinction) - Keele Uni
- Post Graduate Certificate in Counselling - Keele Uni
- BA (Hons) Business Management (MMU)
I've also completed additional training in Trauma Counselling, Abuse, Neuro-affirming Counselling, and Relationship Therapy.
Practice description
What to expect:
In sessions, we'll talk things through at your pace, and see if we can help you feel more at ease. This might involve:
- Dealing with emotions and memories that feel heavy or consuming
- Challenging unhelpful thought patterns
- Looking to understand or make sense of things
- Practicing acceptance
- Exploring different perspectives
- or simply letting it all out, having a vent, cry, laugh or swear - whatever helps you feel lighter!
Because everyone's unique, therapy often looks different for each person. I therefore approach sessions as a collaboration rather providing a strict structure. I'll sometimes ask questions, offer observations/suggestions, or share my knowledge, but won't patronise you or pressure you into anything that doesn't feel right. I'm keen to focus on what's important to you, rather than assuming that I know best.
I hope you'll feel like you're talking with a real human being, and find me to be warm, jargon free, and inclusive. No topics are taboo, you won't be dismissed, and I'll always treat you as an equal.
