About me and my therapy practice

Are you feeling anxious and feels like you're taking on too much, for example in work, in personal relationships or even searching for a counsellor can feel daunting as there are so many to choose from. Day to day tasks can feel exhausting where you say YES to things when you really mean NO.  Maybe you find it hard to switch off- particularly at night.

Whether you’re a young person or an adult having someone to talk to in a confidential and understanding way might be the support you need.  I am a friendly and experienced therapist working in person, online or over the phone and can help you to:

talk about your issues without fear of being judged or criticised so you can offload to have space to think more clearly.

build more confidence in the choices you make and develop  your own coping strategies that work for you

set your own boundaries so you have more space to live the way you want to, to sleep better at night and lessen the guilt of saying no.

From my own personal experiences of anxiety and feeling overwhelmed I understand how important having someone to talk to is, who is not directly involved.  Having someone there who will listen patiently and empathically to help guide you through life's most difficult moments (past or present) in order to feel more in control. For just 50 minutes a week or fortnightly it can make a huge difference.

Make that brave step and contact me for further information for a free 20 min consultation. No commitment, just see if this support might work for you. check out my website for more details: www.dowricktherapy.com

I work with young people (13 years and over) and adults focusing on the person and their issues. This could also include building self awareness, looking at what's going on for you right now, changing unhelpful behaviours, making choices, relationships and life events such as loss and bereavement.  This could also include looking into your past to see what impact your childhood may have had on the way you feel now eg bullying.

Practice description

I work face to face, online and via telephone from Biggleswade.

My first session

I offer a free, no obligation 20 minute telephone call/ online to find out more about my counselling and for you to ask any questions and to get to know each other.  I will then email/ give you a counselling contract to read and for you to think about whether counselling is for you at this time.  There is no pressure, take time to think about whether you want to go ahead with it.

In our initial 50 minute session we spend some time talking about our counselling agreement - we discuss confidentiality, how many sessions you may want, what you should/shouldn't expect from a counsellor,  fees and cancellations and what you hope to gain from counselling.  Then it's up to you if you feel it would benefit you at this time- it's your choice.

Once you make that decision the rest of the sessions will be about whatever you want to talk about.

I have worked for nearly 30 years teaching and working in education. I currently am a CPCAB Level 2 and 3 Counselling tutor supporting students in their journey of self discovery and change.  I understand the anxiety and demands of working in education and the impact it can have on oneself - physically and emotionally.

All my work is Trauma informed and keep up to date with the latest development in this field.
