About me and my therapy practice

Counselling is a process that involves the client and the counsellor where the client talks about areas of their life that they are finding hard. It may be difficulties within relationships (home/work), issues in childhood, previous trauma, or bereavement and loss. I offer clients a non-judgemental space to enable them to explore their feelings within a safe environment. A trusting therapeutic relationship can help facilitate change for the client.

Psychodynamic counselling is a relational process where unconscious material often unfolds in the room and becomes conscious, which can help clients to better understand themselves. It is a client led process where the client brings material from their life experiences to explore further. Connections between past and present can become clearer to the client and 鈥渁h ha鈥 moments can occur.

Clients can experience a space where they feel truly heard and held, and able to express the shadow side of themself. Expressing thoughts and feelings can help a client to understand their own process and why they behave in certain ways, as formative experiences often influence a person's present behaviour. Counselling can help a client develop self-awareness, personal development, better communication within relationships and/or improved self-esteem and confidence. Counselling can help a client to strengthen their internal resources so that they can cope better with life. The experience of being listened to and supported as a client can be hugely powerful.

I am naturally drawn to supporting others. I have a lot of compassion for people and can offer genuine care and support within counselling sessions. I am passionate about the benefits of counselling, and offer short/long term sessions face-to-face or online.

Practice description

As a practitioner of mixed heritage I understand the challenges that difference can present. I am interested in understanding how clients with mixed ethnicity experience life in different cultures and how this impacts their sense of belonging, or not belonging.

I have experienced significant loss in my life which has deepened my compassion for others. I am drawn to supporting others with death, loss and bereavement including loss of health, relationships, work and how identity is influenced by different life stages.

I have volunteered with CRUSE Scotland as a bereavement counsellor since 2023 to offer counselling to those who have experienced a bereavement. I completed training with Creative Counsellors in 2025 and incorporate this into sessions when appropriate. I believe that creative work can allow clients to express themselves at depth when sometimes words cannot be found or articulated. I have also started training to work as a Death Doula with 'Pushing Up the Daises' and 'Living Well Dying Well'.

I have worked for 30 years in various different caring roles and have lots of experience supporting others, including working as an Occupational Therapist (OT) in the NHS for 10 years. I have worked in charities within the mental health field, supporting carers and working with students.

Working as an OT has provided me with an understanding as to how physical and/or mental health issues can impact an individual鈥檚 daily function, in addition to the emotional stress this can have on a person.

My first session

I offer a free 20-minute session (phonecall or Zoom) to discuss what you are looking for in counselling sessions, and to see if it feels right for us to work together. If we decide to proceed then we would contract for an initial 6 sessions then review.

Sessions are 50 mins long. The recommendation is for weekly therapy in order to keep the momentum going and for clients to get the maximum benefit.

The first session consists of an assessment in terms of gathering information about a client's background in order to better understand them as an individual person within the context of their life, and to clarify what area of their life the client is wanting to focus on.
