About me and my therapy practice
I am an integrative therapist that aims to offer a comfortable and confidential space where you feel relaxed and safe to explore your difficulties. I will build a warm, honest, empathic and trusting relationship with you so that you can feel accepted for how you feel, with freedom to speak honestly and unpick the things that are challenging you. I work dynamically to put you at ease, for example, if talking feels too intense we might try using music, role play or creativity as a channel for communication.
I work with adults & young people (aged 12+) using past & present experiences combined with professional skills & training to support people to explore their troubles, enable change, develop awareness, resilience and personal growth, and allow you to move forward with a better sense of wellbeing and confidence.
You may have had an event that has stirred uncomfortable feelings for you or have been experiencing ongoing challenges for some time, perhaps some childhood experiences are impacting you in a challenging way and you are looking at ways to move forward. It could be that life feels overwhelming, you are coping with another person's behaviour such as an addiction, or you feel like nobody 'gets-it'. Maybe you are so busy supporting other people that you need a space of your own. You may have been harmed in the past or are using harmful coping strategies yourself. Life might feel like a dark place right now or relationships are breaking down. Perhaps you find it hard to trust people, maintain relationships or are seeking help to understand your thoughts, feelings and/or behaviours. You might have recently had an Autism or ADHD diagnosis and need support to understand what this means for you. Perhaps you busy supporting someone who is neurodiverse, so you need a space of your own to understand this and process your feelings or maybe you are questioning if you are neurodivergent yourself.
Practice description
My counselling room is close to main roads for ease of travelling, yet set on a farm with nature around it, and easy parking. I work with people from all walks of life, from unemployed, in education, working to public figures. Aged 12 and teens, young adults, mid-life and older adults are all in the age-range I work with. I am open minded, inclusive and welcome clients from different and diverse backgrounds and lifestyles.
I do not; give advice, assume I know what is best, judge you, tell you what to do, give an opinion or tell you it will all be fine.
I do; support you to find a way forward, allow you space for feelings/tears/silence, explore your options, respect that you know yourself best, be alongside you through difficult emotions and believe you can recover/move forward.
I have lived experiences with neurodiversity (diagnosed, suspected or parent of), people in recovery from addiction or that have a loved one in addiction (past/present) that I draw upon to help inform my work. Along with robust training and work experience I support many clients experiencing anxiety, depression, relationships (parents/children/partners/colleagues), transitions (into work/education), self-harm, suicide ideation, anger, trauma and abuse.
I have worked with young people in primary school, secondary school, home schooled, college and university settings as well as school avoidant and boarding schools. Adults and older adults are also drawn to working with me with the above difficulties for my empathic understanding, honesty and ability to form a confidential, safe, trusting relationship.
My first session
It is important for you to feel comfortable with your chosen counsellor, so I offer you the choice of either an initial meeting of up to 20 minutes, free of charge, or a full 50-minute session, payable. Either option can take place via a phone or video call or in person.
In the first meeting you will have opportunity to explain your reasons for seeking counselling, experience me as a person to determine if I might be the right counsellor for you and ask any questions you might have.
From there, if you chose to work with me, we would agree your sessions (usually weekly at the same time & day each week) and how we will work together.
The first few sessions will be spent getting to understand your difficulties deeper, looking at your hopes for counselling and building our therapeutic relationship. I work with an open-ended offer of counselling (short term and long term) with regular reviews of the work to allow us to assess the journey you are on, process any changes and their impact, and make any adjustments to our work if required. Some clients like to form goals to aim for, in which case, these are also reviewed regularly to ensure the work is enabling the change you wish.
