About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced, Â鶹Դ´ accredited therapist with a Post Graduate Diploma (PGDip) in Counselling and Psychotherapy practice.
My way of working is underpinned by therapeutic training in the Person Centred, Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) and Solution Focused (SFT) approaches.
I offer a professional, confidential, non-judgemental therapeutic relationship within which we can explore your concerns and work towards the outcomes you are seeking.
The therapeutic relationship offers a place where you can talk freely, without the need to filter your views and experiences. As such it offers an opportunity to gain the self awareness needed to make lasting changes in your life.
You may want to feel less anxious, less depressed and more able to cope with life. Or you may want to develop more self confidence or to feel less overwhelmed.
You may want to feel able to do what's right for you for a change and not just what you think others expect you to do. You may want to feel less "stuck", emotionally numb or trapped in cycles of unhelpful thoughts and behaviours.
You may want to explore significant changes in your life that are troubling you such as bereavements and health conditions or in your relationships, identity and work life.
You may want to process experiences from earlier in your life that feel as if they are shut away in a metaphorical "box" but nevertheless continue to overshadow your ability to live in the present moment.
You may just have a growing feeling that you need to talk..... with no idea yet as as to what it is you need to change in your life.
Whatever it is that brings you to consider having therapy , I am committed to offering you the session frequency and duration of service that is shaped by your goals and needs.
Practice description
I offer face to face, online and telephone therapy sessions.
Face to face sessions take place at Heswall Hills Counselling Centre CH60 1XF. The centre has comfortable therapy rooms, some with level access. The centre has also parking facilities and is accessible by public transport.
I am able to offer short term therapy or to work to a set number of sessions model, in addition to offering longer-term, open-ended therapy.
As well as working in private practice I have previously been a volunteer therapist at voluntary sector therapeutic services and I am also currently an affiliate counsellor accepting referrals from Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs).
Other relevant experience:
In the past I have undertaken studies in both social work and psychology and in addition to working part time as a therapist, I also continue to work part time as a qualified, experienced social worker for adults. I have over 30 years' experience of working in social care and believe this enhances my therapeutic work as it provides a deeper understanding of the diversity of challenges life can present.
My first session
Before your first therapy session we will have had a brief telephone discussion that has enabled you to establish that I am the therapist you would like to work with.
Before your first therapy session, you will also have been sent a copy of the contract that outlines my professional commitment to you and confirms the boundaries of our work together. At your first session we will initially discuss this contract and you can seek any further clarification that you may require.
Your first therapy session then offers an opportunity for us to explore why you are seeking therapeutic support and to discuss the outcomes you hope to achieve. On the basis of this discussion, we can consider the best way for us to start working together, although this may change over time in response to how you are finding the work we are doing and/ or in relation to any changes in the outcomes you are wanting to achieve.
