Availability

Hello, my practice, The Pines Therapy, is open on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10am - 7pm. The calendar on my website shows my availability.

I am very flexible and appreciate that you may not wish to commit to multiple bookings, I therefore offer the autonomy to book as frequently as you wish, on a day and time that suits you.

I also recognise that for some, making the commitment to embark on a therapeutic journey is important and I offer a concession for block bookings to help with the cost of this.

About me and my therapy practice

Hi I’m Vanessa, and I am an Integrative Therapist. My approach to helping my clients with therapy and counselling services, is founded on the principle of Integrative Therapy.

This means choosing the practices from different therapeutic modalities best suited to a client’s particular needs and wants. By tailoring the therapy to the individual, I hope to deliver the most meaningful outcomes.

Integrative Therapy is not limited to a particular methodology and instead allows me to draw on different techniques as they are required. I work with a number of forms of therapy and personalise the approach to meet the types of challenges you may be facing.

This way of working suggests that there is no single method that is superior for each and every situation. It also means that differing theories that do not necessarily agree with one another can still be effective when combined, to benefit people with mental health concerns.

It is essential to recognise that while Integrative Therapy is flexible, that does not mean that it is entirely without structure. Instead, I will work with you to decide on the most beneficial techniques for a specific purpose and then integrate these approaches into a cohesive therapeutic experience.

Practice description

Perhaps you're down or anxious - maybe you're unsure about the future of a relationship, or just feel that you aren't living the life you were meant to lead. Whatever your needs may be, I am here to offer support. Therapy is a process of growth and self-discovery, and in my sessions, I promote behavioural transformation by encouraging a positive outlook and the adoption of new attitudes and reactions. I have the tools and professional experience to help you get back on track.

My first session

On the day of our first meeting, I will welcome you into my therapy room and check that you are comfortable. I understand that for many this may be their first experience of therapy, and they may not know what to expect, and it is completely natural to feel a little anxious.

I will use the first few minutes of the session to explain my contract, the details that I share with you form the basis of our Working Agreement. I will provide you with a brief overview of my membership with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapists and the role that plays in our therapy sessions.

Once I have given you with details of my contract, I will check that everything is clear and ask if there are any questions, which I always stress can be asked at any time during our work together.

Before we start, and if I have not done so already, I will make a note of some personal details, for example the name and number of your emergency contact.

I will also explain about what happens to any information I ask you for and what I do with it, where it is stored, and how long it is stored for. It is very important that as a client you feel 100% confident that the information you share with me is held in confidence and that your details are safe and secure and can never identify you.

To allow me to fully appreciate how I can best support you I will carry out an assessment, this ensures that I am aware of any additional support or medication you are receiving. Any notes that are taken during our session are for me so that I can further support you.

There is no pressure from myself, and I will always provide you with Unconditional Positive Regard (UPR). This means that regardless of the information you share with me, my regard for you will never wain.

I place no expectation on you; other than to encourage you to be congruent and true to yourself. Honesty and openness will allow you to achieve the greatest clarity and get the most out of your counselling sessions.

About me and my therapy practice

My therapeutic work is based on Integrative Therapy, guided by the values and ethical framework of the Â鶹ԭ´´. This approach recognises that each person is unique, and therapy should be tailored to your needs, preferences, and circumstances.

Integrative Therapy allows me to draw on a range of established therapeutic models rather than relying on a single approach. Therapy is shaped around you, your concerns, history, and goals, supporting meaningful and sustainable change.

A central element of my practice is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), a structured, evidence-based approach that explores the relationship between thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and behaviours. CBT can help you recognise unhelpful thinking patterns, develop practical coping strategies, and make changes that reduce distress. Techniques are used collaboratively and can be applied both within and outside sessions.

Alongside CBT, I integrate other approaches to address present-day challenges and the wider emotional context. This may include exploring deeper emotions, relational patterns, or past experiences. An integrative framework ensures therapy is coherent, flexible, and responsive as your needs evolve.

While flexible, my work is structured and bound by professional guidelines. Together, we agree on the focus, pace, and direction of therapy, regularly reviewing progress to ensure it remains helpful. The therapeutic relationship is central: I provide a safe, confidential, non-judgemental space, practising with integrity, respect, and accountability in line with the Â鶹ԭ´´ Ethical Framework.

My goal is to support you in developing awareness, resilience, and choice, helping you understand your experiences, build coping strategies, and move toward greater emotional wellbeing.

Practice description

Perhaps you are feeling low, anxious, or uncertain about the future, or sensing that life is not unfolding as you had hoped. You may not be able to pinpoint exactly what feels wrong, but you do not have to face it alone. I offer a supportive, confidential space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences at your own pace.

I view therapy as a process of growth, reflection, and self-discovery. Together, we work to increase your awareness of patterns in thinking, feeling, and behaviour, and explore new perspectives and responses that feel helpful and aligned with your values. Therapy is collaborative and non-directive, providing the space to understand yourself and make informed choices.

Since 2019, following my work as an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) and counselling skills practitioner, I have trained in counselling and psychotherapy and established my private practice in 2022, working with adults and young people one-to-one. My experience supporting individuals through emotional development, relationships, and life transitions informs my belief that effective counselling is grounded in kindness, empathy, patience, and respect.

I am trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Gestalt, and Humanistic/Person-Centred counselling. This integrative approach allows me to tailor therapy to your needs, combining practical, evidence-based CBT tools with space for reflection and personal growth. I have also volunteered with a bereavement charity and a local college, supporting people through loss and change.

I value self-care and balance, enjoying forest walks, yoga, meditation, and mindfulness, which help me remain grounded and fully present in my therapeutic work.

My first session

At your first session, I will welcome you and help you feel comfortable. It is natural to feel anxious if this is your first experience of therapy, and my aim is to provide a calm, supportive space where you can settle at your own pace.

I will explain our Working Agreement, including practical arrangements, boundaries, and how we will work together. You are encouraged to ask questions at any time, as collaboration and clarity are important throughout therapy.

Confidentiality is central to counselling. Anything you share is stored securely and handled in line with professional and ethical standards. Any brief notes I take are for professional reflection, supervision, and to support your therapy.

The sessions are entirely yours. You can speak about whatever is important to you, without pressure or expectation. I offer Unconditional Positive Regard (UPR), meeting you with acceptance, empathy, and respect. There is no expectation other than to be honest and true to yourself, which helps achieve clarity and the greatest benefit from counselling.

Therapy offers a safe space to discuss thoughts and feelings that may be difficult to share elsewhere. Being listened to without judgement, criticism, or advice can support self-understanding and help reduce the weight of concerns that affect your wellbeing and enjoyment of life.

If you would like to know more, I offer a free 20-minute telephone consultation, bookable via my website:
