About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I’m Sam. I offer counselling grounded in the Person-Centred Approach—an approach built on empathy, authenticity and acceptance, where you are in the lead. I believe that healing and change happen in a space where you can truly be yourself, without judgment or pressure.

This way of working speaks to me not only as a counsellor but as a person. It challenges power dynamics, honours individual experience, and trusts that you are the expert in your own life. I’m here to walk alongside you, whether you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply looking to understand yourself more deeply.

I have a particular interest in how we navigate identity—especially around masculinity and mixed heritage—and how this shapes our internal and external worlds. These are complex, personal experiences, and I offer space to explore them at your own pace.

Background: My path into counselling came from a place of personal change. Over time, that journey led me to the Person-Centred Approach and to training at The Norwich Centre in the UK. Before that, I studied Social Anthropology at the University of Manchester, and have always been drawn to understanding people, cultures, and connection.

I’ve lived in the UK most of my life, though I’ve travelled widely. I bring that breadth of life experience into my practice, alongside my roles as a husband, father, son, and brother.

Experience: In addition to private practice, I’ve worked as a youth counsellor for MAP with 14–25-year-olds as part of an NHS contract. I’ve also supported clients through charities like Mind and The Norwich Centre and have facilitated men’s groups and support groups through various community organisations.

Interests: Outside of counselling, I do Capoeira—a Brazilian art form that weaves together movement, music, and cultural heritage. It’s a lifelong passion and a powerful reminder of how expression, identity and community intersect.

Practice description

I work online with individuals aged 18+ and hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling from The Norwich Centre.

My style is gentle but active. I won’t tell you what to do or give you quick fixes—but I will listen closely, ask questions, and support you in making sense of your thoughts and emotions. The work we do together is collaborative and at your pace.

My first session

Before our first session, I offer a free initial phone call so we can get a sense of whether we’d work well together. I’ll also send you some information with more details about how I work, along with a privacy notice.

In our first session, we’ll explore what’s bringing you to counselling, whether I’m the right fit for you, and what you’d like to focus on. There’s no pressure to commit—we can take things one step at a time.
